Birthday: April 13

Bio: Cathy Knipper has always enjoyed writing, and dabbled in various forms of the art when she was young. Born and raised in Connecticut, she left in 1979 to attend school at what was then Bryant College, where she met her husband when she had to interview him for the dorm newsletter! Leaving Bryant and traveling onto Boston College, she graduated in 1983 with a degree in History and spent three years in Germany while her husband served in the US Army. They returned to Connecticut until 1994 when they settled in Norton, Massachusetts with their three children.

While raising her family, Cathy was the Publicity Director for Norton Women of Today and Massachusetts Women of Today for a number of years before receiving her start in journalism with the Mansfield News in 2000. She served a freelance writer for the Norton Mirror, Mansfield News and Easton Journal until joining the full-time staff in 2006. She left reporting for a short time to explore other avenues, and is glad to be writing local community news again. She believes it is a privilege to write for and about others and she hopes to serve the people of Mansfield with stories that will enlighten, enliven and enrich their lives.

Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.

This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.

How would you describe your political beliefs? The short answer would be that I think of myself as a liberal conservative. The long answer is I don't discuss who I vote for, (not even with my husband) but the one issue I am truly passionate about is our right to vote. I am also the only person I know who looks forward to Town Meeting!

Are you registered with a certain party? I am registered as an Independent, but I vote for who I believe is the best candidate for the position. I am not loyal to any particular party.

Religion
How religious would you consider yourself? I was blessed to be raised by parents of great faith in a family of great faith. My religion and spirituality are profoundly important to me and effect all my activities. I enjoy sharing conversations on spirituality with people of all faiths. I am a communicant at St. Mary's in Mansfield since 1999.

Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Because of the growth and opportunities in Mansfield, public safety and infrastructure concerns will continue to be of primary importance to the town. Like all towns, Mansfield faces budgetary concerns, especially where the schools are concerned, but I believe both the leadership and the community are prepared to address these issues for the greater good.
Where do you stand on each of these issues? The challenge for town leaders is to balance the old with the new, while providing citizens with basic safety in their roads, facilities and public transportation. Mansfield is extremely fortunate to have caring, educated leaders in public safety and government. The overall spirit of the town is to give back and support the institutions that support the citizens.
