Southeastern Robot Wins Third Place in National Competition

Norton students help build winning bot.

In only a year and a half since Southeastern Regional began offering a robotics class through their cutting-edge engineering program, their robot, “Alden” has already earned third place in the National Robotics League competition.  Alden participated in the ‘Battle ‘Bots’ competition, in the15-lb class category, at the Assabet Valley Regional Vo-Tech High School in Marlboro, Massachusetts, on March 31, facing off against 14 other area teams.  Among the biggest factors in Alden’s success are his proud inventors: Ian Burrill of Norton, Tyreeke Hicks of Brockton, Thomas Cunningham of Norton and Jonathan Berry of Easton.  These robotics students improved upon last year’s model by adding defensive arms, state-of-the-art mechanisms, increased …

Southeastern Celebrates Green Week in a Creative Way.

In what capped off a four day Green Week celebration at Southeastern Regional High School, students from the Design and Visual Communications and Cosmotology Departments modeled outfits from an assortment of animal-inspired designs Thursday.    All of the materials used, true to the week’s mission, were created entirely from recycled materials. Green Week, now in its second year, is a student-driven event, which started to help students become more aware of their environment and to inspire them to come up with more creative ways to live a green lifestyle.  The event was devised by students in the school’s Environmental Science and Design and Visual Communications Departments, but it has quickly spread to include an increasing number of …

Southeastern Regional Faculty to Face Harlem Superstars

A team of Southeastern Regional faculty members will face the Harlem Superstars at the school April 11.

  FROM SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL) It’s show time at Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School. Both school and community members will enjoy “Comedy Basketball at its Best” when the Harlem Superstars play against the Southeastern Dream Team of students, teachers and staff. The fundraising event will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at  6 p.m. at the high school gym on 250 Foundry St., South Easton.  The event is a collaboration of students from Marketing, Design and Visual Communications (DVC), Video Production and Graphics. Marketing students are taking an active role in organizing, promoting, selling tickets and running the event. Pickup Truck Raises Soldier's Spirits

Southeastern students repaint Army National Guardsman's truck as a surprise.

When Army National Guardsman Richard Pike returned from Afghanistan on Dec. 11 after an 11-month deployment, his 13-year-old Dodge pickup truck wasn't waiting for him. It's being painted, his wife Jean told him. Two months later, on Thursday, Pike barely recognized his pickup -- and he was ecstatic. Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School collision repair technology shop students repainted the soldier's red and silver vehicle Patriot Blue Metallic, reflecting his interest in blue. The students, collision repair technology teacher William Collins and Jean Pike surprised him with the truck on Thursday.
