Shoplifting Leads to Arrest of Stoughton and Canton Residents On Saturday, Dec. 29 Norwood Police arrested 36-year-old Christin Quattrucci of Hayward Dr. in Stoughton and 49-year-old Ergin Abaz of Fairview Rd. in Canton. Norwood Police Dispatch received a call reporting that the two were observed shoplifting at the Norwood T.J. Maxx on Nahatan Street. It was reported to the responding officers Chris Flanagan and Jared Kullich that the suspects were removing security tags from the merchandise. On scene officers spoke with the two that were still inside the store. 90-Year-Old Driver Charged With Hit and Run The driver involved in the Dec. 8 hit and run on Park Street in Stoughton, which sent a teenage boy to the hospital, has been charged, the Stoughton Police announced in a release on the Department's Facebook page Wednesday morning. Harry Minassian, 90, of 433 Lincoln St. in Stoughton, is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury; failure to stay in marked lanes; leaving the scene of property damage; and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the release. Norton Parents Get Special Delivery on 12/12/12 When Erin Fisher went into labor Dec. 12, she expected it to go well into the next day. Newborn Wesley Scott Fisher was determined to make his birthday an extra special day, however, arriving at exactly 12:12 p.m. Dec. 12, 2012. “We are both doing very well and are going home today,” Erin said. She has lived in Norton for the past five years with her husband Scott. Wesley, named after Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, was born at 6 lbs., 8 oz. at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. State Police Make Several OUI Arrests Over Holiday Weekend Massachusetts State Police Troopers made 20 OUI arrests and issued almost 350 citations on area roadways this holiday weekend - the result of increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 and a sobriety checkpoint in Canton, according to a press release from the MSP. The State Police deployed increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 in southeastern Massachusetts, the evenings of Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 as "part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving on those roads," the MSP stated in a press release. Howitt Looks to the Future of 4th Bristol District

Norton's sewer connection, Seekonk's roads the focus.

With State Representatives Steven Howitt re-elected last Tuesday, he plans to get back in the saddle to advocate for his district. “The next day you sort of catch your breath,” Howitt said, adding that he’s gotten a lot of positive responses to his re-election. The Seekonk resident attributed his success to his many volunteers, particularly his wife Pam, for helping with his campaign. Howitt received about 63 percent of the votes. In Seekonk, he beat out opponent A. Keith Carreiro 4459 to Keith Carreiro 2491. In Norton, Howitt had 2,226 votes to Carreiro’s 1,366.  In Swansea, Howitt obtained 1,334 votes to Carreiro’s 1,615. Finally in Rehoboth, Howitt garnered 3,929 while Carreiro received 2,025. Howitt represents the 4th Bristol district…

  Stoughton Man Charged with Attempted Murder Police arrested a Stoughton man for attempted murder, among other charges, after he allegedly attacked his parents the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 5, according to the Stoughton Police Log and the Stoughton Police Department Facebook Page. Stoughton Police officers Robert Kuhn and John Lydstone arrested Brandon Hensley, 30, of Ethyl Way in Stoughton "for attacking his parents, including the choking of one of the victims," the department's Facebook page reports. Stoughton Toddler Killed in Collision Near Hansen School The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office has released the name of the toddler killed in Friday afternoon's pedestrian accident in front of the Hansen Elementary School on Central St. in Stoughton. Shayla Lutz, age 3, of Stoughton, was transported from the scene after being hit by a box truck, but did not survive her injuries, according to the DA's office. She was pronounced dead at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. The accident took place at about 2:45 p.m. on September 14. "Shayla and her mom, who was pushing another child in a stroller, were crossing Central Street to pick up her older sibling from Hansen Elementary School," CBS Boston reports. Norton High Girls Basketball Gets To .500

Second straight victory improves Lancers to 6-6 on the season.

When you are trying to reach the tournament, there are certain games where you need to have that killer instinct. One of those games for Norton High girls’ basketball team came on Monday. The Lancers, looking to get to the .500 mark for the season, traveled to Seekonk on Monday to face a winless Warrior team and returned home with a convincing 52-28 victory. The victory improved Norton to 6-6 overall, getting the Lancers to the .500 mark for the first time this late in the season in several years. The win also moved the locals to within five victories of securing their first MIAA Eastern Mass. Division 3 South Sectional Tournament berth in some time. Defense Propels Norton Boys To First Win

Lancers hold Seekonk to just 12 second-half points.

While the Norton High boys' basketball team settles into an offensive rhythm during the early stages of the season, the Lancers will be relying on one of their usual strengths, defense. And that was the case during the team's season opener on Friday night against non-league opponent Seekonk at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. A tenacious Norton defense limited the Warriors to just 34 total points and only 12 in the second half on the way to 54-34 victory. "I was really happy with our defense tonight," said Norton head coach Marc Liberatore. "To hold a team like that to 34 points in the game and 12 in the second half is tough to do. Big Third Quarter Sends Norton Girls To Victory

Lancers go on 18-0 run in third to take control of game.

  An 18-0 run midway through the third quarter spelled the difference as the Norton High girls' basketball team opened the 2010-11 campaign with a 57-40 victory over Seekonk in a non-league game on Friday night at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. "This was a huge win for us, coming off a disappointing season," said Norton head coach Nicole Nunes, whose Lancers were 2-18 in her first year at the helm last winter. "It is nice to get that first win and now we hope to carry it over to our next few games."
