By the end of the meet, all 12 wrestlers left with medals around their necks and eight of them advanced to the Division 3 Individual State Championship Tournament. With three first place finishes and four more runner-ups, the Lancers took their first ever sectional championship. “It was a really great team effort. Everybody contributed to this victory today,” said Lancers head coach Pat Coleman. Future Looks Bright For Norton Wrestling

Return of 10 starters bodes well for Lancers in 2011-12.

With the return of 10 starters, including five Tri-Valley League all-stars, from this year, the Norton High wrestling team looks primed for a very successful 2011-12 campaign. The Lancers will lose two senior starters to graduation from this year’s team in senior captain Derek Hoyt at 140 pounds and classmate Austin Shute at 285 pounds. Hoyt completed his Norton career in terrific fashion this winter, compiling a record of 31-11 and being named to the TVL All-Star Team. He also finished fourth in his weight class at the MIAA Division 3 Central Sectional Individual Tournament in Wayland. “Derek will be a big loss,” said Norton head coach Pat Coleman. “He was a very reliable wrestler. Lancers cap terrific team campaign by having league-best six wrestlers named to squad.

Enright was third at 112 pounds at both the Division 3 State Meet and the All-State Meet in Salem. Norton Wrestling Has Rough Time In Salem

Tough competition and injuries thwart Lancers during All-State Meet.

In any sport, there are going to be good days and there are going to be bad days. The Norton High wrestling team has enjoyed numerous successful days this winter, but had a couple of rough ones this past weekend during the MIAA All-State Meet at Salem High School. The Lancers had carried a ton of momentum into the All-State Meet after having their best team finish ever (second place) at the Division 3 State Meet in Holliston and qualifying the most wrestlers in the program’s history for the All-State Meet in five. Battling tough competition, injuries and fatigue, Norton, unfortunately, did not have any of its five wrestlers place during the All-State Meet this past weekend. Junior captain Brett Gallagher entered the meet as a two-time …
