Lancers' Boys' Take 2nd in TVL Track Meet

Westwood won the boys' meet while Hopkinton took first place in the girls' meet.

While the boys’ meet went down to the wire, things remained status quo in the girls’ meet. Despite only getting four individual wins, the Westwood Wolverines walked away with the boys’ league title beating Norton by only 3.67 points while the Hopkinton Hillers once again won the girls meet. “This meet is not necessarily about how many first places you get. It’s about depth and we’re very lucky to have a lot of great finishes across the board,” Westwood boys’ head coach Joe Mascia said. “These guys have worked tirelessly since the beginning of the season so they deserve it.” Bobby McLaughlin came up big for the Wolverines, completing one of the more tougher doubling efforts in the mile and the two mile. “He ran two really great races and it…

Lancers Track Sweeps Millis

The boys team ends the dual meet season with a record of 9-0 while the girls finish at 5-4.

Last week against Medfield, the Norton Lancers’ boys' track team clinched the Tri-Valley League championship. A week later, the Lancers wrapped up their dual meet season with a convincing 111-24 win over the Millis Mohawks. “Its so exciting. This is four long years of working hard and getting to this point and it finally came to fruition for us,” Lancers’ boys head coach Kent Taylor said. Ben Donovan led the way for the Lancers with a win in the 110 high hurdles (15.9). In the long and triple jumps Donavan finished in second place (18-7 long, 39 triple) behind Dan Rafuse (18-11 long, 39-8 triple) in both events. “He’s amazing. Norton Track Completes Season At All-State Meet

Lancers finish year by taking part in state competition on Saturday in Bridgewater.

The Norton High boys’ and girls’ track teams completed successful 2011 campaigns with a trip to the MIAA All-State Meet on Saturday at Bridgewater State University. Sophomore Joe Colley concluded his break-out season by finishing in 17th place in the javelin with a throw of 153-5. He had entered the event as the 19th seed. Colley also won the javelin during the Tri-Valley League Championship Meet with a distance of 144-7. He followed that up with his best performance of the spring at the Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet, crushing his previous personal best by some 13 feet while capturing the event with a throw of 160-8. Record Breaking Season Continues For Norton Boys Track

Lancers earn best team finish ever during divisional meet on Friday in North Reading.

In this, the most successful campaign in the history of the Norton High boys’ outdoor track team, the Lancers set yet another mark on Friday, registering their best team placement ever during the MIAA Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet in North Reading. The Norton boys finished in seventh place overall with 36 points, surpassing their previous best finish of ninth, which occurred two years ago. Facing a very strong field, Old Rochester won the team competition on Friday with 72.5 points, while Newburyport was second with 68. Rockland placed third with 61.5 points and East Bridgewater was fourth with 43.5. Seekonk took the fifth spot with 42 points, followed by Weston with 39 and Norton with 36. Norton Boys Track Establishes Another First

Lancers earn best team finish ever at TVL Meet on Thursday in Westwood.

The Norton High boys’ outdoor track team culminated the best Tri-Valley League campaign in the program’s history with its best ever team finish at the TVL championship meet on Thursday afternoon at a rainy Westwood High School. After establishing a school record by completing the league dual-meet season with an 8-1 record, the Lancers registered their best team finish ever at the TVL Meet on Thursday with a second-place showing. Hopkinton, which won the league dual-meet crown with a perfect 9-0 mark, captured the team competition with a total of 127 points. Norton was part of a terrific four-team battle for second place and edged rival Medfield for that spot, 71 points to 69. Holliston finished in fourth place with 68 points and Westwood …

Norton Boys Track Looks To Continue Historic Spring

Lancer boys head to Hopkinton on Thursday to challenge for first-ever TVL crown.

It has already been a historic season for the Norton High boys’ track team. And the Lancers will look to make further history when they travel to Hopkinton on Thursday afternoon for a showdown with the perennial league power for the Tri-Valley League dual-meet championship. A convincing 82-49 road victory over Westwood on Monday afternoon allowed Norton to begin the season with a perfect 8-0 record with the eight victories being the most for a Lancer squad since the program joined the TVL. “The season has already been a success,” said Norton coach Kent Taylor. “Anything from here will be a bonus. Norton Girls Track Earns Big Win Over Millis

Lancers rebound from loss earlier in the week to Medfield by beating Millis on Thursday.

A mark of a good team is how it responds to a loss. The Norton High girls’ outdoor track team has lost two Tri-Valley League dual meets this spring, but in each instance the Lancers have responded with a victory in their next meet. The second such case came on Senior Day Thursday afternoon when Norton rebounded from a defeat to Medfield earlier in the week to claim a 110-18 victory over Millis in a league dual meet at Norton High School. The Lancers suffered a 90-46 setback to the Warriors on Monday in Medfield, but their big win over the Mohawks on Thursday improved their league dual-meet mark to 5-2. “We moved some kids around today and everyone did a good job,” said Norton coach Dick Seibert, whose team swept the 100 meters, high jump …

Lancers remain undefeated and set school mark for points during win over Millis.

The train that is the Norton High boys’ outdoor track team continues to roll along. Coming off the biggest victory in the program’s history against Medfield on Monday, the Lancers established a school record for points scored during a 124.5-11.5 victory over Millis in a Tri-Valley League dual meet on Senior Day at Adams Field on Thursday. It has been a historic week for the Lancer boys. It started on Sunday at Bishop Fenwick High in Peabody when Norton registered its highest team placement ever at the MSTCA Division 4 State Relays. The Lancers won two championships and established five new school records during that competition. Numbers And Talent Propel Norton Boys Track To Undefeated Mark

Lancers stand at 3-0, but have bigger and better things in mind.

To compete for a Tri-Valley League title, you have to have both talent and depth. The Norton High boys’ outdoor track team possesses both of those elements, and that has resulted in the Lancers being able to start the season with a perfect 3-0 record. The Lancers have won their first three meets by at least 30 points. They opened the year with a 108-28 home win over Dover-Sherborn on April 7. Norton then headed to Holliston on April 11 and returned with an 83-53 verdict over the Panthers. It was just the second win ever for Norton over Holliston since the Lancers have been a part of the TVL. “The kids were pumped up and had a fantastic day,” said Norton coach Kent Taylor. New Coach Guiding Norton Girls Track This Spring

Long-time successful head coach Dick Seibert takes over Lancer program.

With a new head coach at the helm, the Norton High girls’ outdoor track team is hoping to make some noise in the Tri-Valley League this spring. After a long and distinguished coaching career at both Braintree High and Bristol-Plymouth Regional High in Taunton, Dick Seibert takes over the head coaching reins this spring for the Lancer girls. Seibert has had a remarkable career, having a combined 65 seasons of coaching experience in track, volleyball and gymnastics. Seibert was the head girls’ outdoor coach at Bristol-Plymouth the past two seasons before taking early retirement from the school as a teacher at the end of the last academic year. “I love coaching and was looking for a fresh start,” Seibert said. “I went to the MIAA website and …
