Norton Goldstar Committee Nearing Halfway Point for Funding for Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent Memorial

Selectman Robert Kimball says funding is coming in for the memorial.

The Norton Gold Star Committee is on its way to reaching its goal of $75,000 for a memorial for Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. Currently, selectman Robert Kimball said the group is at about $34,000. Kimball said they raised tens of thousands of dollars at their last two fundraisers in Norton and at Wheaton College. “We’re also trying to put together a motorcycle ride,” Kimball said.  “That’ll be the next project for working on this fundraiser.” Kimball said there will be an entrance fee for each rider, as well as a sponsorships for the riders. “It works both ways,” he said. “Anyone who’s riding it like I will, will probably be reaching out to get sponsors on the trip to raise additional funds. Location, Design Selected for Memorial Park

Park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent.

The Gold Star Committee has selected a parcel of land located on 32 W. Main Street for a park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. "We were looking for a place where people could just sit and relax," said Gold Star Committee member Robert Kimball. Trent died from wounds he sustained in Afghanistan Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C. His unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. Trent, a Norton High School graduate, was 38 when he died. The last soldier from Norton who died in battle was from World War II. The park, which will be next to CVS, will include a walkway leading to a flagpole, …
