Chinese Exchange Students Visit the State House

Press release on behalf of Reps Barrows, Poirier and Howitt.

Representatives Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield), Elizabeth A. Poirier (R-North Attleboro) and Steven S. Howitt (R- Seekonk) recently hosted several Chinese exchange students visiting Wheaton College for the summer at the Massachusetts State House. “I learned a lot from visiting with this group of students and was very happy to heed their curiosity and questions," Poirier said. They seemed to really enjoy their visit and I am proud to have hosted such a bright, young group of students here in Boston.” Wheaton College is partnering with Norton High School students to show the Chinese Students what life is like in the United States, and specifically the Commonwealth. House Republicans Local Aid Amendment Signed Into Law

PRESS RELEASE: Town of Norton stands to receive thousands in reversion funds.

State Representatives Elizabeth Poirier (R – North Attleboro), Jay Barrows (R – Mansfield) and Steven Howitt (R – Seekonk) announced that a Local Aid Reversion amendment introduced by House Minority Leader Brad Jones and the Republican Caucus during House debate for the Fiscal Year 2012 budget, was recently signed into law by Governor Patrick. This marks the first time in over four years that a Republican-offered amendment has been included in the final version of the state budget.  If reversions, which are unspent portions of the budget, reach past levels, the Town of Norton stands to receive approximately $127,108 in one-time funding.  “I am glad this Republican initiative to provide one-time funding to cities and towns was passed”, …

State Reps. to Hold Open Office Hours

Representatives Howitt, Barrows and Poirier to be in Norton June 3.

State Representatives Elizabeth “Betty” Poirier (R-North Attleboro) and F. Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield) have announced that they will be holding office hours Friday, June 3.  Representatives Steven Howitt (R-Seekonk), Betty Poirier and Jay Barrows will hold a joint Norton office hours 12:30  to 1:30 p.m, at the Norton Town Hall’s selectmen’s meeting room.   All constituents are welcome to come and meet with them to discuss state government issues or any other matters of concern. No appointment is necessary.

State Rep. Jay Barrows Commends Schools for MCAS Scores

State Representative sends letter of congratulations to superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay.

Dear Patricia, I would like to extend sincere congratulations for Norton ranking 47th in the state for last year's MCAS scores. I was extremely proud to see that the Norton School District ranked within the top 50 in the state, this is quite an achievement. It is not only a tribute to the students of Norton, but also for the teachers, administration, School Committee, and the entire community. Producing such high results is a difficult task for all of the individuals within a school district, and Norton has risen to the challenge. I wish you the best of luck with next year's test, and have no doubt that Norton will prove to be successful once again.
