Gold Star Committee announces that memorial for Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent moving along.
The Norton Gold Star Committee, formed to help honor Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent, said last week that they are making progress in acquiring funding for a monument in Trent’s honor. Trent's childhood friend Bill Novick told Norton selectmen that the process for funding the monument is progressing smoothly in the town and beyond. “We’ve gotten a lot done in a short period of time,” he said. “We’re constantly reaching out to the community because we want this to be a community project.” The project, which was brought to the board in October, is collecting funding for the project in a variety of means. Park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent.
The Gold Star Committee has selected a parcel of land located on 32 W. Main Street for a park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. "We were looking for a place where people could just sit and relax," said Gold Star Committee member Robert Kimball. Trent died from wounds he sustained in Afghanistan Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C. His unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. Trent, a Norton High School graduate, was 38 when he died. A Committee is being formed in order to construct a memorial in honor of Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. Trent, of Norton, died from wounds he sustained in Afghanistan Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. Trent was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C. His unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. He was 38. Local service for fallen U.S. Master Sergeant to be held in near future.
United States Master Sergeant Gregory Trent, who died from combat wounds he received in Afghanistan, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery Thursday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. A local memorial service will be held in the near future. Governor Deval Patrick has ordered that the United State flag and Commonwealth Flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise to sunset to honor him on Thursday. Trent, of Norton, died Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland after his unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. He was 38.
