Update: Six Middle School Students Win Turkey Shoot

Students help raise more than $1,000 for Cupboard of Kindness.

UPDATED NOV. 27:  Winners of the Turkey Shoot are: Eighth grade: Maddie Murphy -21 John Duranko- 19 Seventh grade: Patrick Bingel- 18 Corinne Rey- 19 Sixth grade: Sara John- 24 Luke Combs-19 About 300 kids participated in the annual Turkey Shoot at Norton Middle School Tuesday.  Physical education teacher Stephanie Motyl and Kristen Miller of Cupboard of Kindness organized the event.  Students paid $1 or three canned goods to enter a foul shooting contest. Whoever gets the most shots in a minute wins a turkey. The goal was to raise at least $1,000 and nine boxes of canned goods for the Norton Cupboard of Kindness.  "That [the canned goods] was new this year, and I'm really psyched," Motyl said. Norton Post Office to Help Stamp Out Hunger

Saturday, the Norton Post Office will be collecting food to donate to the Cupboard of Kindness

On May 12, local communities across America will be asked to join the U.S. Postal Service and its letter carriers to combat one of this nation’s growing problems — hunger. The Norton Postal Office will be taking part and making the donations to the Cupboard of Kindness. About 50 million Americans — including 17 million children — now live in families that lack sufficient food. The Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Campbell Soup Company, Feeding America and other partner organizations are working together to collect food donations May 12. It is the nation’s largest single-day food drive in local communities across America — including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Now in its 20th year, the Stamp …

Relays for Real Good Reasons

Norton High swimmers and divers raise money for team, Cupboard of Kindness.

Tuesday night, Norton High swimmers and divers raised over $1,000 for the team and Norton’s Cupboard of Kindness with a Relay-a-Thon in the Wheaton College pool. While one third of the team was given donations beforehand, the rest were sponsored per lap and so are still collecting money, which is due Friday.  As of last night, however, the team already earned $1,100 total.   Norton swim team coach Kim Bray hopes to bring a portion of the money to Cupboard of Kindness Monday. The team will use the rest for things such as stopwatches, which have to be replaced every year, team caps, deck shirts to wear during meets, end of season banquet, any equipment that needs to be replaced, etc. "Our supplies tend to dwindle year to year," Bray said. …
