Three town residents help Warriors to successful season this spring.

Three town residents concluded their seasons with the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ outdoor track team over the past couple of weeks. Following a terrific day during the Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet in North Reading, senior captain Brenna Gonsalves culminated an outstanding career with the Warriors by competing at the All-State Meet on Saturday at Bridgewater State University. During the divisional meet, Gonsalves entered the 110 hurdles as the seventh seed, but captured the event. She finished first during the preliminaries with a season-best time of 15.64 seconds and placed first during the finals in a time of 15.65 seconds. Gonsalves Had Season To Remember

Town resident helps guide her team to one of the best seasons in Coyle girls’ history.

Though she has moved on to spring track, which will be followed by graduation and then college, the 2010-11 season of the Coyle-Cassidy girls’ basketball team will be one that town resident Brenna Gonsalves won’t soon forget. As a senior captain and three-guard, Gonsalves helped lead the Warriors to one of the best seasons in the program’s history as they reached the Division 3 state semifinals. The list of accomplishments by Gonsalves and Coyle-Cassidy from this past season is quite impressive. The Warriors set a school record for victories during the regular season and also tied the school record for wins in a full season. Gonsalves and Coyle advanced deeper in the postseason than any team since the state championship squad of 1987, …

Season For Coyle-Cassidy Girls’ Team Ends In Boston

Fourth-quarter comeback not enough in loss to St. Mary’s in Division 3 state semifinals.

Close games. It what makes the MIAA Tournament fun and exciting, but it can also be frustrating and heartbreaking. In its five-game trek through the Division 3 tournament, the last three were tough, hard-fought affairs for the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team. The Warriors were able to stave off a talented Norwell team, 32-31, in the Division 3 South Sectional Semifinals at Massasoit Community College, eight days ago. On Saturday afternoon at UMass-Boston, Coyle-Cassidy found itself trailing by nine points entering the fourth quarter against Archbishop Williams, 49-40, before scoring an incredible total of 30 points in the fourth quarter to come away with a 70-63 victory and its first sectional championship since 1987. Coyle-Cassidy Overcomes Archbishop Williams For Sectional Crown

Warriors rally from nine-point deficit with 30-point fourth-quarter explosion.

In a season filled with accolades, record-setting performances and heart-stopping moments, town resident Brenna Gonsalves was not quite ready yet for her career with the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team to come to an end. With her team facing elimination from the postseason, the senior captain and three-guard scored 14 of her team’s impressive total of 30 points as Coyle turned a nine-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter into a seven-point victory and the Division 3 South Sectional championship against rival Archbishop Williams on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass-Boston. The victory was the 12th straight for the third-seeded Warriors and improved their record to 22-2. The win over …

Defense Sends Coyle Girls To Sectional Final

The Warriors hold off late charge to defeat Norwell in semifinals on Monday.

A trademark of the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team the entire season has been its defense. And when the Warriors needed their defense the most, it came through for them. After falling behind for the first time since early in the second quarter, Coyle-Cassidy held Norwell scoreless over the final 2:26 of the fourth quarter and held on for a heart-stopping 32-31 victory over the Clippers in the semifinals of the Division 3 South Sectional Tournament on Monday night at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. “It was a great defensive effort by the kids,” said Coyle-Cassidy coach Mike O’Brien. “But they also did a great job defensively against us. They took us out of what we wanted to do. We were tentative on offense, but giving up …

The Warriors, with five town residents on their playoff roster, will enter the Division 3 South Sectional as the third seed with an 18-2 overall record.
