Gonsalves To Play In Charity Basketball Game

Town resident to compete in event to benefit Greater New Bedford Boys and Girls Club.

The basketball season is not quite over yet for Norton resident Brenna Gonsalves. The senior captain and three-guard from the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team will join teammate Tricia Quinn and some of the top players from Southeastern Massachusetts for the 19th annual Boys and Girls Club Basketball Challenge, which will take place on Friday night at The Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford. The night will feature three games and is for a great cause as the annual event supports the programs and services offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford, which serves over 1,000 youngsters in that area. Gonsalves Breaks Coyle-Cassidy Scoring Record

Town resident becomes school’s all-time leading scorer on Tuesday night.

On a night filled with nerves, emotion and excitement, town resident and basketball standout Brenna Gonsalves became the all-time leading scorer at Coyle-Cassidy during a 51-32 victory over Bishop Stang in an Eastern Athletic Conference game on Tuesday night in Taunton. Gonsalves, a senior captain and three-guard for the Warriors, entered the game needing just 12 points to break the all-time scoring record at the school, held by 1996 graduate Eric Ferris, who scored 1,397 points during a stellar career with the Warriors. Town resident needs 12 points to become all-time leading scorer at Coyle.

Following a wait of close to 10 days, tonight could be the night that town resident and basketball standout Brenna Gonsalves becomes the all-time leading scorer at Coyle-Cassidy High School when the Warriors host Bishop Stang in an Eastern Athletic Conference game at 6:30 p.m. If she scores 12 points against the Spartans, Gonsalves will become the all-time leading scorer at Coyle-Cassidy. She would surpass the school record of former Warrior star and current Norton resident Eric Ferris, who scored 1,397 points during a stellar career. Coyle-Cassidy High Girls Basketball Outlasts City Rival

Warriors sweep season series with Taunton after win on Sunday.

With three town residents helping to lead the way, the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team defeated Taunton, 48-38, to sweep the city championship on Sunday in a home game. The victory was the second straight for the Warriors and improved them to 12-2 overall on the season. Senior captain and guard Brenna Gonsalves led the way for Coyle-Cassidy with a game-high 21 points. That total moved the Warrior standout to within just 11 points of the all-time scoring record at the school, held by Eric Ferris, who scored 1,397 points during his stellar career.
