New Testament Students Combine Candy and Math

School striving to teach in unique ways.

The kindergarten class at New Testament Christian School really enjoys math; particularly since it recently  involved candy.   “The students have been learning the math skill of estimation,”  said kindergarten teacher Susan Ferris. "The students were each given a paper with a heart drawn on it. Next, they were given one small candy heart and asked to guess how many candy hearts would fit inside the paper heart. The students then counted how many actually fit in. “The students and I were impressed that they gave fairly accurate guesses,” Ferris said. The second skill the class has been learning is graphing. Students were given a handful of conversation hearts candies and asked to sort them by color, and place them on a vertical graph. The …
