I'm hoping to drive my old beater into the ground before we need to get another car, but I'm on the lookout. What's your next car going to be?
My wife and I drive a perfectly good 2002 Nissan Sentra with 127,318 miles on it. "Stella" has four wheels and gets us from Point A to Point B. We've reached the stage in the life of the car where we don't repair body damage (as you can tell from the accompanying photo). I'm ashamed for my Dad to see it. But hey, it's paid for. Even though I'd love to get 200K miles out of Stella, she has some mechanical problems, like a seized bolt that has left the transmission fluid unchangeable for about eight years. She could conk out any old day. So we've been on the lookout for our next car. I'm paying attention to car commercials, asking friends about their cars. You know the feeling. We're looking for something that gets good gas mileage, and is …

Whether it is something full of raw power or finesse, everyone's dream car is unique.
Whether it started with the nearly imperceptible shape and accompanying wail of a passing Italian exotic, hours spent staring down the lines of a German poster car, or your first time slogging through mud that no machine should be able to transverse — all the cars of our dreams have their origins. My first dream car — and most car people will have at least a few in their life time — began to take form upon hearing my first burbley V8. It was a passing sound that is attached to no vehicle in my memory, but it stuck with me. It wasn’t until I saw the lines of a 1966 Pontiac Tempest GTO that the form took shape. When I heard that boisterous engine while staring at a GTO, I knew that car had worked itself into my mind forever. Since that time…

Weighing the pros and cons of a hybrid cars.
Hybrid cars have come a long way since the Honda Insight became the first hybrid for sale in North America in late 1999. For one, the styling has gone from futuristic insect to more traditional looks. And while once the sight of a Prius rolling by would turn heads, hybrids seem ubiqutious now. (The more traditional looking models also don't turn as many heads.) There are the well-known pros to hybrids, starting with cutting down on trips to the gas station. The miles per gallon these cars get is the first specification that jumps out at most people, and what many customers are looking for when shopping for a hybrid. For city-dwellers, the fuel economy of hybrids is often better for city driving than for highway driving, flipping the …

Mock elections held at Norton High School and Henri A. Yelle Elementary School.
Norton students had the opportunity to vote for their choice for the senate and presidential candidates Monday. “When I first came here to the high school to talk to the civics class, we agreed that we wanted this to be a process that was as closely matched to what the real process was, and that’s exactly what we did,” said Norton Town Clerk Danielle Sicard. About 85 percent of Norton High School students registered to vote 20 days before the election, checked in and out and voted in a booth. The civics class, with the leadership of their teacher Robb McCoy and Sicard, have gone through a training session, have been sworn in as election workers for this mock election and will be conducting the hand counting and producing a final results …
