School Articles Drafted for Spring Town Meeting

Money for school repairs and upgrades to be requested.

Norton School Committee is gearing up for the Annual Town Meeting scheduled for May 14 by drafting up four articles. First they will be requesting to transfer $100,000 from the insurance recovery account to repair damages to the Henri A. Yelle Elementary School gymnasium floor. A pipe leaked underneath the surface, causing extensive damage. The moisture from the rupture warped the floorboards. Until the floor is fixed, the gym isn’t usable. “We temporarily loaned the money to the pay vendor but we need it back in the school budget by the end of the school year,” Ansay said. Location for Spring Town Meeting Selected

Annual meeting to be held 7 p.m. at Norton Middle School.

The annual spring Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 14, 7 p.m. at Norton Middle School. “We used the middle school for the last town meeting and it worked out well,” said Town Manager Michael Yunits. If any hot-button issues arise, the location can be changed. Henri A. Yelle Elementary is not an option because the gymnasium floor is still in disrepair. All capital requests with supporting documentation and quotes will be accepted at the Selectmen’s office until 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 10. Warrant articles will be accepted at the Selectmen’s office until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1.
