The enemy seeks to kill and destroy!

Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing.” ~ Margaret Chittenden I love that quote from novelist, Margaret Chittenden, and I’ve referred to it more than a few times in my writing. There aren’t too many things that can happen to a writer worse than the feeling of an impending deadline closing in as he or she sits helplessly in front of a computer staring off into the abyss of lost ideas. Been there! Done that! Not fun! Granted, there are many worse things that can happen in life, but for the moment I’m talking about things that are associated strictly with the world of writing…

Let the kids run the show…and write your article.
I wasn’t feeling good after supper (made supper for everyone else but me) and laid down on the couch to rest. My son thought it was hilarious waking me up as I dozed off. I knew I had my deadline to write my Patch article, which was the last thing I felt like doing. So, I said to my nine year old son, “why don’t you write my article for me this week instead of waking me up?” Immediately dollar signs came into his eyes, and he said “will I get paid for this?” I said I would give him a cut, and immediately he began to haggle. “Whoa, hold on a minute, it needs to be 350 words, so get writing” I told him. Two minutes later, he wakes me again to count how many words he has written. This goes on for three or four more times until he gets to …

The 9-year-old will open Norton Has Talent with story about time travel.
As soon as First Night chairman Brian Coughlin spoke to Lily Holloway's fourth grade class about Norton Has Talent, the 9 year old knew she wanted to be involved. Lily, a student at Henri A. Yelle Elementary, was very eager to call Beth McManus, the coordinator of the talent show. She left a lengthy message on the phone, and patiently waited three days before getting a call back. When Annemarie Holloway answered, McManus told Lily's mom how great of an idea Lily had. And so now Lily is opening the event with a story about time travel. "Lily's dad is a history buff," Annemarie said. "When she said 'I want to do a story about time travel,' his face lit up."
