Wheaton earned its 13th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Wheaton College women's soccer team will be honored for its outstanding 2012 season this Saturday, February 16 at halftime of the men's basketball game versus Springfield College. The Lyons are scheduled to tip-off against the Pride at 2 p.m. on "Senior Day." The women's soccer team finished its 2012 season with an 18-2-6 record overall and 7-1-1 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Lyons, who earned their 13th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid last fall, hosted the first round of the tournament and went on to win both of their games before bowing out in the sectional semifinals to Carnegie Mellon. Wheaton College women's soccer senior forward Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central) propelled the Lyons, ranked 25th overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll, into the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division III Tournament with her fourth game-winning goal this season in a 1-0 triumph over no.9 ranked Williams College on Sunday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. Wheaton pushes its record to 18-1-6 overall on the season. The Lyons will take on Carnegie Mellon (13-1-4) in the sectional semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, November 17 at a time and place to be determined later. The Wheaton College women's soccer team received word of its 13th straight NCAA Tournament selection on Monday afternoon, as the Lyons are hosting a four-team pod beginning with Saturday's first-round game against Westfield State University at 11 a.m. Saturday's second semifinal at 1:30 p.m. features Farmingdale State College and Williams College. The nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium, as the Lyons dropped a 2-1 decision to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action while falling into a first-place tie with the Engineers. Ranked first in New England for the first time this season, the Wheaton College women's soccer team recorded its fifth straight shutout while remaining unbeaten on the season Wednesday afternoon, as the Lyons notched a 2-0 victory over visiting Salem State University in a non-league match at Mirrione Stadium. Sliding up seven spots in the country to number seven in yesterday's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, Wheaton matched the program's eighth-longest unbeaten streak in improving to 12-0-2. Southern New Hampshire University freshman Morgan Branco, of Norton, scored her first collegiate goal as the women’s soccer team posted a 5-1 win over Bentley University Tuesday night to improve to 7-3-1 and 5-3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Branco scored in the 87th minute of the win, the third straight for the Penmen. The all-time leading scorer for the Boxers with 89 goals and 30 assists, Branco has appeared in all 11 games for Southern New Hampshire with one start. Morgan is a Brockton High School graduate. She follows in the footsteps of her brother Jordan Branco, who has also made a career for himself as a soccer player at Southern New Hampshire University. The seven seniors on the Wheaton College women's soccer team have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success during their first three seasons, including three bids to the NCAA Tournament as part of the Lyons' remarkable 12-year NCAA run.
