Women's Lacrosse Upends Wellesley

Lyons score 17-straight goals in victory.

The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team used a dominating performance to upend Wellesley College, 17-4, on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Junior Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) paced the offense with a game-high five markers and two draw controls. Freshman Allie Bush (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) facilitated play with two goals and a game-high five assists. Classmates Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, Mass./Concord) and Mia Cambi (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and senior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) all contributed three goals apiece. Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Engineers

The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team raced out to a 10-2 halftime lead and held on for an eventual 13-11 triumph over MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field. Sophomore midfielder Melanie Sharick (Amherst, Mass./Amherst)filled the stat sheet for Wheaton with three goals, three ground balls and three draw controls. Women's Lacrosse Downs Roger Williams

The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team earned a 12-8 triumph over Roger Williams University in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening at Bayside Field. Junior Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn./Cushing Academy) led all scorers with five goals on 12 shots (eight on goal). Senior Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) contributed three markers while junior Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and freshman Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, Mass./Concord) aided the offense with two goals apiece. After falling to Springfield College in the final moments of the 2012 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinals last season, the goal is simple for the Wheaton College women's lacrosse team this spring – to advance to the conference title game for the first time since 2006. "We felt like we were right there competing with Springfield and Babson all season long. Lyons Defeat Smith 20-5 to Win ECAC Championship

Wheaton College junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) scored six goals and won four draw controls to propel the top-seeded women's lacrosse team to a 20-5 win over No. 4 seed Smith in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Sunday afternoon at Keefe Field. Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) scored four goals and dished out three assists for the Lyons (14-6), who captured their first ECAC Championship in program history after a pair of trips to the semifinals in 2001 and 2002. Moreira, meanwhile, was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after compiling 10 points (8-2-10) and nine draw controls this weekend. Wheaton Earns Top Seed in ECAC Women's Lacrosse Championship

The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and will host the tournament this Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13, at Keefe Field. The Lyons (12-6) finished the 2012 regular season with their highest win total in eight years and advanced to the semifinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament. Head coach Emily Kiablick led Wheaton to its most conference wins (four) since the 2006 campaign, earning NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors for her efforts. Wheaton College has had a successful run in lacrosse lately, with the boys team defeating UMass Boston 11-2 and the girls winning 23-10 against Salve Regina University this week. Senior Duncan Smith (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) scored four goals and classmate David Schroeder (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) potted three as the Wheaton College men’s lacrosse team defeated UMass Boston 11-2 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.
