Women Finish Second, Men 13th at ECAC Championship

Women snag 60 points while men garner 21.

The Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field team placed second while the men took 13th at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I-III Championship Friday afternoon at RPI. The women finished with 60 points and the men notched 21 points. Sophomore Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) won the 400m hurdles (55.78) and placed second in the 200m dash (24.99). She was also part of Wheaton's fifth-place 4x100m relay team that posted a time of 48.49, along with senior Lauren Cardarelli (Cranston, R.I./La Salle), junior Amanda Claflin (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke), and sophomore Amber Spencer (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley).  Senior Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical) won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.46. …

Traffic Delays Likely Saturday

Kiss Concert, Wheaton commencement, Reach the Beach Relay and youth baseball and softball games all taking place.

It's going to be busy in town this Saturday with the Reach the Beach Relay, Wheaton commencement ceremony, a concert at Comcast and youth baseball. Reach the Beach will run through Norton from approximately 2:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Runners will come into town from Easton's Bay Road and cross onto Route 123. The first checkpoint in town is at St. Mary's Church. They will then make their way down Power Street then S. Worcester Street until they reach Sysco. From there they will head into Taunton. The Wheaton College commencement ceremony will begin 10 a.m. If you are attending this, the graduation will take place on the campus green, also known as "The Dimple." Lyons Baseball Down Bridgewater State [VIDEO]

Wheaton College senior Hal Landers (Salem, N.H./Salem) went 4-for-5 with four RBI to propel the No. 9 Lyons baseball team to a 6-2 win over Bridgewater State University in the NCAA New England Regional Wednesday afternoon at Eastern Connecticut State University Baseball Stadium. With the win, the top-seeded Lyons advance to face No. 5 seed Western New England University (34-11) Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The Golden Bears defeated No. 4 seed Keene State 7-1 in the first game of the tournament. Lyons Defeat Smith 20-5 to Win ECAC Championship

Wheaton College junior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) scored six goals and won four draw controls to propel the top-seeded women's lacrosse team to a 20-5 win over No. 4 seed Smith in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Sunday afternoon at Keefe Field. Senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H./Concord) scored four goals and dished out three assists for the Lyons (14-6), who captured their first ECAC Championship in program history after a pair of trips to the semifinals in 2001 and 2002. Moreira, meanwhile, was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after compiling 10 points (8-2-10) and nine draw controls this weekend. Wheaton College to host Greenhouse Open House

Check out plants from the rainforest, desert and more.

Wheaton College’s new greenhouse, located at the top of the Mars Center for Science and Technology, will host an open house and a repotting clinic Friday, May 18, 1 to 4 p.m. Come visit, ask your questions about plant care, and bring a houseplant in need of repotting. The greenhouse will provide soil and different sized pots. Whether you’re a scientist hoping to find something new, an artist with a sketchbook or camera, or a busy person just seeking a moment of peace, you are welcome. The greenhouse gathers a world of botanical diversity into a 1,200-square-foot setting. Made up of four adjacent rooms, the greenhouse includes rainforest, desert and temperate environments, as well as a larger space reserved for student and faculty research…

Norton Native Placed on NEWMAC All-Conference Team

Wheaton College junior Sean Ryan, of Norton, is a student-athlete named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Team. Joining him will be sophomore Alec Palioca, freshman Apolinar De la Cruz, senior Dan Haugh, junior Frank Holbrook, Senior Hal Landers and junior Eric Jensen will join him. Wheaton also received the conference's Sportsmanship Award. A native of Norton, Ryan was named NEWMAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in hits (73), runs (41), doubles (16), total bases (102), and stolen bases (24). Ryan hit safely in 34 of 41 games - including 22 multi-hit games - and finished second in the conference average (.403) and third in RBI (33). Wheaton Earns Top Seed in ECAC Women's Lacrosse Championship

The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and will host the tournament this Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13, at Keefe Field. The Lyons (12-6) finished the 2012 regular season with their highest win total in eight years and advanced to the semifinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament. Head coach Emily Kiablick led Wheaton to its most conference wins (four) since the 2006 campaign, earning NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors for her efforts. Behind the arm of junior Frank Holbrook (Middletown, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) and the bat of classmate Sean Ryan (Norton, Mass/Norton), the No. 9 Wheaton College baseball team won its 12th New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship and third-straight with an 11-2 win over Babson College Saturday afternoon at Sidell Stadium. With the win, the Lyons improve to 34-8 and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season and 11th time in program history. Ryan finished the tournament batting .571 (8-for-14) with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.
