Norton House of Pizza being handed down to the next generation.
Nick Anifantis’ father and uncle started the Norton House of Pizza more than 40 years ago, and now he’s getting ready to continue the tradition. “They’re in their 60s and they’re heading towards retirement,” he said. “I’ll be taking over.” Anifantis first started at the shop when he was 12, sweeping the floor and putting pizza boxes together. He first started cooking when he was 14. “It was fun at the time, if a little demanding on a 14-year-old,” he said. “I learned a lot from my father and uncle.” Anifantis is originally from Norton, growing up in town and went to Norton High School. His father and uncle grew up far away, though. “They migrated from Greece in 1970 and started working in factories in Worcester,” he said. “They had the …

Rink on Wheaton campus for college community while Slattery property open to the public.
The men and women’s ice hockey teams at Wheaton College have joined together to provide the campus community with an opportunity to enjoy the winter weather by installing an outdoor skating rink. The rink is only open for the college community and guests from dawn to dusk with several events such as open skate night, intramural hockey, open recreation hockey and group skates. Ice skate rentals will not be provided unless it is a special event. Helmets are required for all skaters younger than 18. While ice skating on the rink is not open to the public, the Slattery property located at 166 John Scott Blvd. is. The weather must cooperate first, as the shallow pond must freeze over. "If there is ice and gate to the property is open than that …

A new studio will be nice, but Norton Cable needs to also start moving in a new direction.
Norton Cable Access will move to a new 3,000 square-foot studio on the campus of Wheaton College sometime in the near future. The Norton Cable Access Corporation has entered into a long-term agreement with the college, and hopefully this is the start of a new era. But while the location may be new, the business plan for Norton Cable Access remains the same it has been for the last two decades. Despite the best efforts of both the professional staff and the hard-working volunteers who make up the cable committee, that plan is simply not working. Norton’s plan is a simple one – provide town residents the opportunity to come in and learn production values, use equipment, and then produce their own local programming. It is a model that has …

Good luck Nick, Many memories of the old building. It was fun after school running over to get a $ 2.25 large pizza back in 1980. As a life long resident of the Town of Norton, I wish your father and uncle ( also including your mother and aunt) a happy retirement.   more ›
