Congressman leads Gabriel Gomez by 17 points.
A new Suffolk University/7NEWS (WHDH) poll shows a strong lead for Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey over Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez in the race for the U.S. Senate special election. The poll of 500 likely voters has Markey at 52 percent and Gomez at 35 percent. Eleven percent of voters in the poll were undecided. A third-party candidate, Richard Heos of the Twelve Visions Party, got 1 percent and another 1 percent refused to respond. David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston, said along with the announcement of the poll that Markey has "a large lead over his Republican opponent who voters are unsure about." Norton residents can expect temperatures this week that are cooler in the morning but significantly more mild by the afternoon. Tuesday and beyond offers partly to mostly sunny skies with early morning temps in the 40s and afternoon highs reaching the mid 60s," wrote WHDH's Jeremy Reiner in his weather blog. Worst part of Hurricane Sandy for New England is expected to be from noon through 9 p.m. on Monday.
As of 5 a.m., the National Weather Service Hurricane Center has Hurricane Sandy is about 385 miles south, southeast of New York City. The storm is traveling at approximately 15 mph toward the north. It is expected to turn northwest today, then turn toward the west-northwest tonight. The center of Sandy will move over the coast of the mid-atlantic states in the evening hours. According to reports, Sandy is a hybrid storm, meaning it is a huge Nor’easter with a hurricane in the middle. The storm is currently measuring 900 miles wide, making it the second largest storm on record. Hurricane force winds are expected along portions of the coast between Chincoteague, Virginia and Chatham, Massachusetts. This includes the coasts of Rhode Island. …
