New Testament Hosts Special Guests for Veteran's Day

SFC Hector Lopez and former Marine Marianne Cabral visit classrooms at Christian school in Norton.

Students at New Testament Christian School recently welcomed special visitors in honor of Veteran’s Day.   SFC Hector Lopez, an Army Recruiter from Taunton, came to Jennifer DeAguiar’s second and third grade class and read "Dubs Goes to Washington and Discovers the Greatness of America," written by Dick Morris, Eileen McGann and Clayton J. Liotta. The children were captivated as he read the story. When the story was over, Lopez talked about what it means to be a veteran, both past and present, and the importance of the veterans on a level that the students were able to understand. When he was finished with his presentation, the children had an opportunity to ask him questions about his career in the Army, his family and Jesus. The children…

Local Deals Abound for Veterans Day

Local businesses salute our service men and women with special deals year-round as well as on Veterans Day.

A number of local businesses are saluting veterans, military service men and women, and their families this Veterans Day by offering local discounts, specials and promotions. Here's a quick guide to many of these great deals to be found on Veterans Day in the area: For military service men and women only: THE DISH: more Secret Discounts! Remember, the whole point of Veterans Day to thank and remember our troops and November is Military Family Month. Thank you to our troops and their families for your service, and thanks to all of the local businesses and Newport County Chamber of Commerce for supporting our troops and their families!

Veteran's Day Parade to be Held Monday

Procession to start 10 a.m.

Norton will once again hold a Veteran’s Day Parade to honor those who have served or currently serving in the armed forces. The parade will begin 10 a.m. Monday from Henri A. Yelle Elementary School. It will then travel down E. Main Street to the flag and memorial at the intersection of Pine Street and E. Main Street for a prayer. The last stop for the procession will be at Norton Common where there will be a few speakers. The parade will then return to the Yelle School. Town Offices will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday.
