Ribbon cutting took place before Homecoming football game Friday.
In a long-anticipated event, Norton school staff held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Oct. 21 for the new track and bleachers at the high school. Speakers included superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay, principal Raymond Dewar and track and field coach Kent Taylor.

Dear Editor, I am very excited for the new renovations at the Norton High School. I believe this change has been long over due. A new track and bleachers have been added which will greatly benefit our athletes. The old track was so dangerous that other schools were refusing to participate in events on it. This renovation will give everyone something to look forward too. Other, new renovations will give everyone hope for a better education. Currently we have classrooms with no windows; the renovations will help to eliminate this and will be a positive change for our school. Event to take place Oct. 21.
On Friday, Oct. 21, Norton High School officially opens its new track, bleachers and press box at Adams Field. The opening ceremony will take place at 6:45 p.m. prior to the Norton Football Team’s Homecoming game versus Medfield High School. The public is cordially invited to attend this event. Members of the Norton High School football, soccer, cross country and cheerleading teams, as well as the pep band, will be brought out onto the field. There will be brief speeches by Dr. Ansay, elected officials and a coach, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 50-yard line. Norton High School track re-pavement underway.
Norton High School is just a month away from having its new track put in. Milling of the track was completed July 13, and the paving was done the 14th. IW Harding Construction Company is the contractor doing the track. They installed the black surface. According to Laura Carew, facilities and grounds coordinator, the track should be finished in August. The bleachers are scheduled to be finished by mid October. The total cost of the project is $752,520. But with the $65,000 donated from Norton Cable TV for the press box, $8,000 taken from the Field of Dreams account and $28,500 from the facility rental account, the cost to the town is $650,020. The average cost per household for the school and track projects will be $8.53 per year until …

4,474 votes cast Saturday, June 11.
After all the meetings, information sessions, rallies and debates over the $34M high school building and track and bleacher projects, the “yes” voters came out in full force, passing both override questions at Saturday’s Special Election. Despite the rainy weather, 4,474 of Norton’s 11,615 registered voters cast their ballot with an unofficial count of 3,138 “yes” votes to 1,329 “no” votes for question one, the high school addition and renovation project, which will receive a 64.42 percent reimbursement from Massachusetts School Building Authority, and 3,164 “yes” votes and 1,300 “no” votes for question two, that would repair the high school track and allow for the purchase of new bleachers. Lancers finish year by taking part in state competition on Saturday in Bridgewater.
The Norton High boys’ and girls’ track teams completed successful 2011 campaigns with a trip to the MIAA All-State Meet on Saturday at Bridgewater State University. Sophomore Joe Colley concluded his break-out season by finishing in 17th place in the javelin with a throw of 153-5. He had entered the event as the 19th seed. Colley also won the javelin during the Tri-Valley League Championship Meet with a distance of 144-7. He followed that up with his best performance of the spring at the Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet, crushing his previous personal best by some 13 feet while capturing the event with a throw of 160-8. Three town residents help Warriors to successful season this spring.
Three town residents concluded their seasons with the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ outdoor track team over the past couple of weeks. Following a terrific day during the Eastern Mass. Division 4 Meet in North Reading, senior captain Brenna Gonsalves culminated an outstanding career with the Warriors by competing at the All-State Meet on Saturday at Bridgewater State University. During the divisional meet, Gonsalves entered the 110 hurdles as the seventh seed, but captured the event. She finished first during the preliminaries with a season-best time of 15.64 seconds and placed first during the finals in a time of 15.65 seconds. On June 6 and June11 Norton’s registered voters will be voting on two very important articles that will impact everyone in the Norton Community. It is important to vote “yes” and understand why you would want to do so. The past few weeks you have probably heard many people talk about and read articles written on the High School Addition project which is a much needed project that will only benefit every single household in Town for little money.
