Wheaton claims seven 1st place finishes at home.

The Wheaton College women's track & field team hosted the Wheaton Invitational at the Beard Field House and flourished in its only home meet of the season earning several top-3 finishes on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons hosted Assumption College, Bridgewater State University, Lasell, Ramapo College, Salve Regina, UMass Boston and Worcester State University in the non-scoring meet. Junior All-American Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet)won two individual events on the afternoon and also helped the 4x200-meter relay team to a second place finish overall. The Wheaton College women's track & field team competed in the Yale Invitational, hosted by Yale University, on Saturday afternoon at the Coxe Cage. Today's meet was an unscored friendly which featured such teams as Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut State, Williams and Brown University among others. Junior Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) earned Wheaton's only first place finish of the afternoon capturing top honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87-seconds. Little qualified for the finals with a time of 9.03-seconds in the prelims. Today's meet was an unscored friendly which featured such teams as Sacred Heart, Southern Connecticut State University, Central Connecticut State, UConn, Williams, UMass Amherst and Brown University among others. The Wheaton College men's track & field team opened up its indoor season with several strong individual performances at the University of Southern Maine Invitational in the Costello Field House on Saturday afternoon. The invitational, which featured seven schools and several unattached runners, was a non-scoring meet. Junior Olufunsho Olagundoye (New York, N.Y./Cushing Academy)posted a pair of second place finishes in the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Olagundoye ran a time of 6.77-seconds in the 55-meters and 22.98-seconds in the 200-meter dash. Olagundoye qualified for the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 6.50-seconds in the preliminary heat. The Lancers Cross Country teams have started the new year with wins against Bellingham.
The Norton High School boys and girl’s cross country seasons have officially begun, and on Wednesday, both squads earned important victories against Bellingham. The boys are currently 2-0, while the girls are 1-1. Both teams will compete against Hopkinton 3 p.m. Monday in a home meet. The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track & field team will have several student-athletes competing for All-America status at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championship on Saturday. Senior Mark Williamson (Vienna, Va./James Madison) placed fifth in the 400m dash prelims (48.05) on Friday and will race 6:50 p.m. EST. Westwood won the boys' meet while Hopkinton took first place in the girls' meet.
While the boys’ meet went down to the wire, things remained status quo in the girls’ meet. Despite only getting four individual wins, the Westwood Wolverines walked away with the boys’ league title beating Norton by only 3.67 points while the Hopkinton Hillers once again won the girls meet. “This meet is not necessarily about how many first places you get. Girls lose 76-60.
While unfortunately the Norton girls track & field team lost to Medfield 76-60, the boys won the TVL Championship 83-53. "We got them where we needed it, where we were consistant all year," said coach Kent Taylor. "It was pretty special today. This is the first time in Norton track history that we've won a Tri-Valley championship." The boys are 8-0 and will next compete at the MSTCA Freshman/Sophomore Meet 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Westwood High School. The Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field team placed second and the men finished 10th at the Fitchburg State University/Eric Loeshner Invitational Saturday afternoon. Seniors Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham) and Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical), along with sophomore Meredith Scannell (San Marino, Calif./San Marino), each recorded first-place finishes for the Lyons. Dell'Aira won the triple jump (40' 2"), Jusme took first in the 100m hurdles (14.50), and Scannell won the 400m dash (57.81).
