Reported Violent Crimes Increase in Norton

The FBI's annual crime report shows an increase from 2010 to 2011 in reported violent crimes in Norton.

More violent crimes were reported in Norton in 2011 than were reported in 2010, according to statistics released this week by the FBI. The number reported last year was seven, while three were reported in 2010.  The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year.  Violent crimes include murder and non-negligent manslaughter (willful, non-negligent killing of one human being by another, according to the FBI's website), forcible rape (including attempts and "assaults to commit rape"), robbery and aggravated assault. The Uniform Crime Report also features property crimes, which …

Norton Police Charge Third Person for Breaking and Entering This Week

Adam Carine, 24, of Mansfield, was charged with attempting to commit a crime (breaking and entering in the daytime) and more than $250 in malicious damage to property.

Norton Police charged a third person this week for an attempted breaking and entering. At approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday, the department arrested Adam Carine, 24, of 45 Fairfield Park, Mansfield, for an attempted house break at 19 Newcomb St., Norton. Norton detectives were in the area due to the recent house breaks when they observed Carine attempting to enter the residence through a window. Carine was placed under arrest by Detectives and was transported to the Norton Police station.   Carine was also arrested in December of 2010 after a similar incident and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, larceny over $250, stolen property over $250 and two counts of malicious destruction of property …

Mansfield Elementary School Evacuated After Substance Found in Letter At approximately 10:57 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, Mansfield Public Safety Dispatch responded to a call reporting that a staff member at the Robinson Elementary School had opened a letter from the mail containing a white powdery substance. Mansfield Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini said the employee was transported to Norwood Hospital as a precautionary measure. The school was immediately evacuated, and students were transported to surrounding schools after the evacuation. Attleboro Duo Tries to Remove Piping, Wiring from Campbell House

On Friday, Norton police arrested two subjects at the Campbell House who were attempting to remove piping and wires from the historic site. At 12:38 p.m. March 9, Detective Jeffrey Zaccardi observed a suspicious looking male and female on the property of 217 West Main St., known as the Campbell house in front of the Norton Middle School. Patrolman Scott Sweeting and Patrolman David Ruskey responded to assist Zaccardi. Officers noticed a door to the house to be open and searched the vacant building. Officers encountered the pair in the building and placed them under arrest. Officers discovered that the two were attempting to remove copper piping and electrical wires from the building. Suspect in House Break-ins Caught

Norton police arrested Jeffrey Andrews Tuesday afternoon, after receiving a report of a break in. At approximately 2:40 p.m., a resident of Taunton Avenue stated to police that she believed someone might have broken into her home.  When she arrived, she noticed a package on the front step had been opened and a bicycle not belonging to the residents beside the front door. Officers searched the exterior and interior of the residence and found no one inside or in the neighborhood. As officers canvassed the area, they observed a window screen removed in a neighboring house. Officers then observed a male exiting a second floor window at the residence.
