Lyons take every match in their own invite.
The Wheaton College women's tennis team earned victories in every match of its own tournament inside Beard Field House on Sunday afternoon against Clark University, Curry College and Salve Regina University. Junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian)defeated Megan Mulrooney (Curry) 8-0 in the opening flight and posted a straight-sets triumph over Kasey Walther (Salve Regina) in the championship round at No.1 singles. At No.2 singles, sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) posted an 8-0 victory over Ana Gwozdz (Salve Regina) in her first flight. The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell to MIT, ranked no.20 overall in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings, by a score of 8-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts. Freshman Jonah Feit (Los Angeles, Calif./Milken Community)defeated MIT junior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Tech) who is ranked no.6 overall in the Northeast Regional rankings by a score of 3-6, 6-2 and 10-8 at No.1 singles. The Wheaton College women's tennis team, ranked no. 20 overall in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings, dropped a 6-3 decision to the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian)and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View)teamed up for a No.1 doubles victory and also won their respective singles matches. Cooke defeated sophomore Kelsey Hensley (Ashland, K.Y.) by a score of 6-2, 6-2 and Marlowe posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over freshman Ann Maria Pena (Bogota, Columbia). The Wheaton College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Clark University in Saturday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match that began in the Beard Field House and finished outside at the Clark Tennis Courts. Finishing their fall regular season slate on a high note, the Lyons forced a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings. Wheaton is now 7-3 overall and 4-3 in league play. Clark fell to 6-9 and 1-6. Playing doubles inside, the Lyons allowed a combined four games in their three matches. The Lyons fell to 6-3 on the season and 3-3 in league play, while the Engineers are now 7-1 overall and unbeaten in the NEWMAC at 6-0. The Wheaton College women's tennis team turned in a 5-4 victory over visiting Colby College on Sunday afternoon, as the Lyons extended their winning streak to four matches in a contest that started outside at the Clark Tennis Courts and ended inside Beard Field House.
