Serious Accident Causes Part of Route 123 to be Closed

Elderly driver transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital.

*UPDATE* 4:41 p.m.: West Main Street has been opened. The driver was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. For more information, click here.  An elderly driver hit a town plowing truck head on Tuesday afternoon, causing the section of Route 123 near St. Mary's Church to be closed off. State Police are currently piecing together what happened. Norton Police Lieutenant Todd Jackson said that the road will be opened after they are finished. He estimates this to be around one hour. In the meantime, traffic is being detoured down Power Street to S. Worcester Street back to Route 123. The elderly driver was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. I am so sorry you could not get here for either service but keep in mind that your Dad, brother and Mom are watching you and know your circumstance. They understand. All you can do right now is live minute by minute and hour by hour. I lost my Mom at the age of 56 in 1999 and my Dad at age 62 in 2006. There is still some pain. St. Mary's Time Capsule Opened [VIDEO]

Letter and miraculous medal found.

After much anticipation, the opening of the time capsule found in the basement of the old St. Mary’s Church in a cornerstone took place today after Sunday Mass. A letter by Rev. John McNamara and miraculous medal was found inside. The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, is a medal created by Saint Catherine Labouré following a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many wear the medal, which they believe will bring them special graces through the intercession of Mary if worn with faith and devotion at the hour of death. The contents of the capsule came to a surprise to the crowd. “We all know what time capsule mean to us today, but I guess they had different expectations back in the 20s,” said Tom Golota, …
