Women’s Soccer to be Honored at Halftime of Men’s Basketball Game Saturday

Wheaton earned its 13th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Wheaton College women's soccer team will be honored for its outstanding 2012 season this Saturday, February 16 at halftime of the men's basketball game versus Springfield College. The Lyons are scheduled to tip-off against the Pride at 2 p.m. on "Senior Day." The women's soccer team finished its 2012 season with an 18-2-6 record overall and 7-1-1 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Lyons, who earned their 13th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid last fall, hosted the first round of the tournament and went on to win both of their games before bowing out in the sectional semifinals to Carnegie Mellon. Norton's Branco Receives NSCAA Men's Soccer Award

Named to Third Team All-America.

Four Penmen seniors, including Jordan Branco of Norton, garnered All-Region honors. Branco was named to the Third Team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Branco, a Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference selection, finished 2012 as the second-leading scorer on the Penmen despite missing three games, totaling six goals and a team-high nine assists for 21 points this season.  Over his three seasons in a Penmen uniform, Branco totaled 17 goals and 18 assists for 52 points and was a two-time NE-10 All-Conference selection. Branco Nabs Capital One Academic All-America Honors

Norton resident earns honor for second year in a row.

Southern New Hampshire University senior Jordan Branco was named Wednesday to the Capital One Academic All-America men's soccer team.  Branco was a Second Team selection. For the second straight year, he was honored as a Second Team selection. He becomes the second two-time Academic All-American in SNHU history, as former Penmen women’s lacrosse standout Julie Kraus was honored in 2008 and 2009. Southern New Hampshire has now had a total of 13 Capital One Academic All-Americans. The Capital One Academic All-America and All-District teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wheaton Soccer Advances To Sweet 16

Women win 1-0 against Williams College.

Wheaton College women's soccer senior forward Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central) propelled the Lyons, ranked 25th overall in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll, into the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division III Tournament with her fourth game-winning goal this season in a 1-0 triumph over no.9 ranked Williams College on Sunday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.  Wheaton pushes its record to 18-1-6 overall on the season. The Lyons will take on Carnegie Mellon (13-1-4) in the sectional semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, November 17 at a time and place to be determined later. Women's Soccer Earns 13th Straight NCAA Tourney Bid

The Wheaton College women's soccer team received word of its 13th straight NCAA Tournament selection on Monday afternoon, as the Lyons are hosting a four-team pod beginning with Saturday's first-round game against Westfield State University at 11 a.m.  Saturday's second semifinal at 1:30 p.m. features Farmingdale State College and Williams College.  Saturday's winners continue on to Sunday at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to the following weekend's sectional round. MIT's Overtime Goal Lifts Engineers to Victory Over Host Wheaton

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) men's soccer sophomore Nick Diamantoni (Belle Mead, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) scored with 3:41 to play in overtime on Wednesday at Wheaton College's Keefe Field, leading the fifth-seeded Engineers to a 1-0 victory over the fourth-seeded Lyons in the opening round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament.     MIT, which is ranked in a tie for 10th in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), advances to Saturday's semifinal round at top seed Babson College and will face the host Beavers at 10:30 a.m. The Engineers improved to 12-4-1, while Wheaton finished its fall at 9-7-4.     Diamantoni's goal came on the heels of two MIT…

Wheaton College women's soccer sophomore Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) scored a pair of first-half goals on Wednesday at Mirrione Stadium, leading the third-seeded Lyons to a 2-1 victory over sixth seed Wellesley College in the  opening round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament. This tournament bid was a reward for all the hard work they put in during the regular season. They drew the Sharon Eagles in the first round, playing them to a 5-0 blowout win yesterday afternoon at Norton High.  With both teams finishing with winning percentages at .500, the matchup was sure to be an even one. Norton, however, started the game out strong and never took their foot off the gas. Two early goals from freshmen stand out Jonathon Lach put the Lancers up 2-0 in the first half. Reis Achieves Historic Milestone

Wheaton women's soccer coach is second-fastest coach with 300 wins

Wheaton College head women's soccer coach Luis Reis became the sixth active coach and 12th overall in Division III women's soccer history to reach the 300-win milestone when his nationally-ranked Lyons defeated host Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Saturday.  Reis accomplished the milestone in just 372 games.  Joe Russo at The College of New Jersey did so in 350 matches.     Boasting the fifth-highest winning percentage among all Division III women's soccer coaches with a minimum of 10 years as a coach, Reis entered the year with an astounding 285-49-18 record, good for an .835 clip.  He is in elite company, ranking eighth in winning percentage among all NCAA women's coaches and fifth…

Mens Soccer Wins Big Over Emmanuel During Senior Day and Season Finale

The Wheaton College men's soccer team racked up five first-half goals on Wednesday en route to a 7-1 victory over visiting Emmanuel College during the Lyons' Senior Day and regular season finale at Keefe Field.     Playing the Saints for the first time in program history while raising its home mark to 8-1-1 this fall, Wheaton saw its overall record improve to 9-6-4.  Emmanuel wrapped up its season this afternoon, falling to 4-12-2.     Host sophomore Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) and freshman Michael Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Millbrook School) each scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Lyons.     Senior Will Nesbitt (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) picked up the game-winning goal midway through the…
