Representatives of Campanelli Corporations cite 2008 agreement which Town Manager says is invalid.
Campanelli Corporation is disputing an outstanding bill of $154k the town says is owed to them. At the Board of Selectmen’s meeting two weeks ago, members and Town Manager Michael Yunits said the company has failed to pay the bill for sewer capacity. Campanelli Corporations, however, say that they not only paid the bill, but have overpaid by $103,946. The town billed Campanelli for excess sewer capacity they have never used, under a contract that dates back to a previous developer who owned the land off Route 140 slated for an office park that has yet to be built. “We are proud of the successful business partnership we have maintained with the Town of Norton over many years,” said Campanelli partner Daniel DeMarco. “We are disappointed by …

Ten to 20 year plan would connect residents to town sewer line and regionalize wastewater treatment with Mansfield and Foxborough.
A plan to connect Norton residents to a town sewer line and regionalize wastewater treatment with Mansfield and Foxborough could cost about $38M. The majority of residents are currently using individual Title 5 septic systems while a smaller group is hooked up to the municipal wastewater system. The majority of the municipal wastewater that’s collected in Norton is sent to the Mansfield Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is actually located at the intersection of Crane and Hill Street in Norton. Some are connected to the Taunton Wastewater Treatment Facility. There is also a treatment plant at Norton Middle School, which Norton High and Yelle School were recently connected to. “The comprehensive plan is really looking at where other …

Selectmen endorse amendment to 2010 legislation allowing for towns to set own fees.
State Representative Jay Barrows told Norton selectmen Thursday the five-year- old effort to expand the Norton based, Mansfield-operated sewer treatment facility on Hill Street is inching towards completion. He requested the board sign a statement endorsing an amendment to the legislation passed in 2010, a ruling that formally established a wastewater district including the towns of Mansfield, Norton and Foxborough. The amendment allows each member community to set its own fees for new commercial and residential users of sanitary sewer, rather than establishing one set fee for everyone. The three communities have been meeting over the past two years to pound out the parameters of the agreement. “We’re getting close,” Barrows said. Under …
