Norton's Ryan, Wheaton Baseball Team Ready for NCAA Tournament

The Wheaton College baseball team was tabbed as No.2 seed for the NCAA New England Regional in the NCAA Division 3 Regional. The Lyons will now play Salem State in the regional opener.

The second-seeded Wheaton College baseball team, ranked no.15 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, will make its 12th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in program history on Wednesday, May 15 when the Lyons take on seventh-seeded Salem State University in Harwich at Whitehouse Field. Local Players Lead Wheaton College to Conference Title

Norton's Sean Ryan was named as outstanding player in the league, while Easton's Ryan Grant got a save and Walpole's Matt Lavancy scored two runs.

First-seeded Wheaton College, ranked no.14 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, won its 13th conference title in the 15-year history of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 6-3 victory in the championship game over second-seeded MIT on Saturday evening at Sidell Stadium. The Lyons (30-10) have earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will make their 12th appearance in program history at the New England Regionals on Wednesday, May 15 in Harwich, Mass. at Whitehouse Field. Lyons Baseball Push Winning Streak To Six Games

Wheaton College senior outfielder Sean Ryan(Norton, Mass./Norton) knocked in a game-high four runs to lead the Lyons, ranked no.10 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, over WPI by an 18-2 score in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Thursday evening at Sidell Stadium. The Engineers were tabbed as the home team for today's contest in a makeup game originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 in Worcester, Mass. Senior right-hander Frank Holbrook (Middletown, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) ran his record to 5-0 overall scattering 11 hits over six innings of work, two runs (both earned), zero walks and two strikeouts. Local Players Star as Wheaton College Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

Standout local players were on the stage as the Wheaton College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Babson College.

The Wheaton College baseball team, ranked No.10 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, swept a pair of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games against Babson College on Saturday afternoon at Sidell Stadium. The Lyons won game one, 11-2 (seven innings) and posted an 8-3 triumph in the nightcap.  Wheaton 11, Babson 2 (seven innings)  Junior Alec Palioca of Wrentham and King Philip Regional went the distance in game one for Wheaton allowing five hits, two runs (both earned), three walks and a season-high nine strikeouts. Norton's Ryan Ready for Big Year for Wheaton College Baseball Team

Wheaton College baseball team focused on NEWMAC championship run.

  Norton's Sean Ryan, a senior, will start in right field after leading the team in batting average at .384 last season with 86 hits in 226 at bats. He also had a .402 on base average, a .531 slugging percentrage, 18 doubles, three triples, 37 RBI and 30 stolen bases. “He has always been a big part of our offense and last year he really had a strong year for us,” said head coach Eric Podbelski. “Sean has got our best combination of explosiveness with the bat and explosiveness speed wise. He also takes pride in being a good baserunner, sacrifice bunting and will do whatever it takes to win a ball game. Norton's Ryan Helps Brockton Rox to Playoffs in First Year

The Brockton Rox captured the fourth and final playoffs in their first season in the New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

  For the Brockton Rox, their first season inn the New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League ended with a two-game series sweep at the ends of the Nashua Silver Knights. The Rox, whose season ended on Aug. 13, made a late season run to claim the fourth and final playoff spot in the league by finishing with a 29-23 record. Norton High head baseball and football coach Ted Currie was an assistant head coach for the Rox. Here's how the local Rox players did this summer: Norton-Sean Ryan, outfielder, .356, going 64 for 180 with 10 doubles, 25 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Ryan's Single Gives Brockton Rox's Win

Norton's Sean Ryan's single in the 10th inning led the Brockton Ros to a doubleheader split with Martha's Vineyard.

  Norton native Sean Ryan’s (Wheaton College) walk off single down the left field line in the bottom of the 10th inning of game two propelled the Brockton Rox to a split of Saturday night’s doubleheader with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at Campanelli Stadium in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action. After dropping the first seven-inning contest, 5-3, Brockton (27-23) rallied for a win in the second tilt, 6-5, to keep sole possession of fourth place in the FCBL standings. Meanwhile, Martha’s Vineyard (25-22) remains tied for fifth place with the Pittsfield Suns, just a half game behind the Rox in the standings. Ryan Helps Rox Rally to Take Two from Sharks

After knocking off the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, 10-9, in the 13th inning on Sunday afternoon, the Brockton Rox followed with another late-inning comeback later in the day, as they stormed back from a two-run deficit to upset the Sharks, 3-2, at Vineyard Baseball Park in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action.  Brockton (22-20) and Martha’s Vineyard (22-19) opened the afternoon by completing their July 3 contest that was suspended due to darkness in the 11th inning with the game tied at nine. After two scoreless innings of action, Mike Lupia (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) sparked the offense in the top of the 13th with a leadoff single. Q&A with AJ Bashaw and Sean Ryan (Brockton Rox)

Bashaw, Ryan talk about their summer with the Rox.

They never played together at Norton High School, but this summer AJ Bashaw and Sean Ryan are the only two players from Norton, who’re suiting up for the Brockton Rox in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.   Bashaw, who has yet to register a win on the bump this season, has appeared in 10 games thus far and has struck out seven batters, while yielding 10 hits. His longest outing as a relief pitcher occurred on July 15 against Nashua, where he pitched 3 2/3 innings. Ryan, who currently leads the league with four triples, has been the spark plug for the Rox offense. He’s played in 32 games, and has recorded 45 hits, 19 RBIs, 18 hits and 14 stolen bases. He recently earned a spot in the inaugural FCBL All-Star game, which will be played …

Ryan Named to FCBL All-Star Squad

He joins five others from the Rox.

Six Brockton Rox standouts, including Norton's Sean Ryan, will be heading to Nashua next week as the rosters for the inaugural Futures Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game have been unveiled. Also representing the Rox are Greg Baggett (Bentley), Vito Perna (Southeastern Louisiana), Joe Fasano (New Jersey Institute of Technology),Jonathan Rosenberger (Newberry) and Michael Romano (North Carolina Central).  The FCBL All-Star Game will pit the original four franchises, Martha’s Vineyard, Torrington, Seacoast and Nashua, against the new expansion teams made up of Pittsfield, Wachusett, North Shore, Old Orchard Beach and Brockton.
