A UMass Lowell/Boston Herald poll shows he is in a strong position to run in 2014.
Results of a UMass Lowell/Boston Herald poll this week show former Senator Scott Brown is more popular than he was when he lost his re-election bid last fall and is in a strong position to run for Governor in 2014. The independent, nonpartisan poll surveyed 600 Massachusetts registered voters between Saturday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 5. With regard to Brown, the poll – which asked voters for their opinions on whether they would vote for Brown if he runs for governor – showed he has considerable bipartisan support, with 32.7 percent saying they are very likely to vote for him and 26 percent somewhat likely. Driver in Route 123 Accident Pronounced Dead William Lozeau, of Norton, was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital Tuesday following an accident on Route 123. The 50-year-old W. Main Street resident hit a town plow truck head on near St. Mary's Church. The driver of the plow, Rhode Island resident George Guptill, was travelling in the eastbound lane when Lozeau came from the opposite direction into that lane. The accident caused the road to be closed for an hour and a half. The cause of the collision is under investigation. Former United States Senator Scott Brown has another job. The Wrentham Republican is a new commentor on the Fox News Channel, according to a report on the Huffington Post. Brown will be appearing on the Sean Hannity Show Wednesdays in primetime. He will also be appearing on other shows. On his Facebook page Wednesday, Brown said, "Going to be on Hannity around 9:30 p.m. tonight. Looking forward to discussing a range of topics." In November, Brown lost the Senate race to Elizabeth Warren and then recently decided not to run for John Kerry's seat when he was appointed Secretary of State. Scott Brown ended speculation Friday afternoon as to whether he would run for U.S. Senate, announcing that he is not entering the race for the seat left vacant by John Kerry’s confirmation to the post of Secretary of State. Two Democratic political opponents – Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) – will face off in the April 30 primary with the special election set for June 25. There are currently no Republican candidates in the race. Markey, who represents the 5th Congressional District, kicked off his campaign in December. With Tuesday's official nomination of U.S. Senator John Kerry to the post of Secretary of State, the field is opening up with folks vying for Kerry's seat in his unexpired term in the U.S. Senate. But before that even happens an interim senator has to be named. On Wednesday, Governor Deval Patrick announced his former chief of staff William “Mo” Cowan will be the interim senator and will serve until a new senator is elected in the June 25 special election. Patch reported in December that Cowan, a Stoughton resident, would be stepping down this month and returning to the private sector. John Kerry will replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.
With only three dissenting votes, the U.S. Senate has confirmed John Kerry as the new Secretary of State. Kerry will take over for Hillary Clinton, who is leaving her post after four years. The move means Kerry will have to resign as Massachusetts' senior senator. According to a Tweet from WCVB political reporter Janet Wu, Kerry's resignation has reportedly been sent to Gov. Massachusetts Congressman Stephen Lynch said he is definitely considering running for John Kerry's senate seat. Lynch was on the Joe Ligotti Show on WTKK Radio Saturday afternoon and said he would be honored to be a Senator. Kerry has been nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state and is expected to be confirmed. Gov. Deval Patrick is expected to appoint an interim Senator until a special election can be held. The Boston Herald is reporting Barney Frank is the leading candidate for the interim position. With Senator John Kerry likely to be President Obama’s pick to replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, a return to the Senate may be possible for Scott Brown if he chooses to once again run for the office according to a new poll of 500 registered voters from WBUR and MassINC. Despite losing to Senator-Elect Elizabeth Warren in November, the majority of Massachusetts voters still have a favorable view of the Wrentham resident with 58% of those polled viewing him favorably compared to 28 percent who have an unfavorable view. 12 percent were undecided and one percent said they have not heard of Brown. U.S. Senator Scott Brown, a Republican, was defeated Tuesday by first time candidate Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat. Warren will take office as the state's junior senator in January. She'll replace Brown, who was elected in a special election in January 2010 when he defeated Democrat Martha Coakley. In his concession speech on Tuesday night, Brown told supporters that "defeat is only temporary." As soon as the race was called, analysts began suggesting Brown may run for Massachusetts governor in 2014 or would seek the state's other U.S. Senate seat if Senator John Kerry is named Secretary of State under President Barack Obama in his second term. Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has beaten incumbent Republican candidate Scott Brown for a seat on the U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press. Warren is won by a margin of eight percentage points, 54 percent to 46 percent, making her the first female senator elected in Massachusetts.
