Women's Basketball Hosts Clinic for Norton Fifth And Sixth Graders in Remembrance of Sandy Hook

Free clinic paid tribute to Sandy Hook Elementary School victims.

The women's basketball team hosted a free clinic for Norton fifth and sixth graders Wednesday at Emerson Gymnasium. The Lyons paid tribute to everyone who has been affected by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.  Dec. 14 by hosting the free clinic for members of the Norton community. At the end of the clinic, players from the women's basketball team and the Norton students signed a card for the Newtown community. The women's basketball team also plans on attending various elementary schools throughout the Massachusetts region during the season to honor and support the Newtown community by offering free basketball clinics. Talking To Your Kids About Newtown Tragedy

PBS has strategies for talking and listening to your children about the news.

In the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Tewksbury parents may find their children hearing about the tragedy or seeing it on the news and find themselves in a difficult discussion. For parents seeking guidance on how to address the tragedy with their own children, if it comes up, PBS has an article with flexible suggestions for answering kids' questions about the news. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) also has a 24-hour hotline dedicated to providing disaster crisis counseling at 1-800-985-5990 or by texting "TalkWithUs" to 66746. Norton School Officials, Police React to Connecticut School Shooting

Officials say schools have a plan for such incidents.

Norton school and police officials are confident that if a school shooting were ever attempted, like the one in Newton, Conn. that occurred Friday, they are prepared to react quickly and efficiently. In fact, lockdown practice drills were conducted at the elementary schools earlier this week with Norton Police Department. Superintendent Dr. Martes observed the drill at Henri A. Yelle Elementary with principal Lisa Farrell and Detective James Franco. “Detective Franco was very impressed by our procedures,” Martes said. “He told me that the other drills went well.  Having said that, we will continue to review our procedures with the police department.”   Let Patch save you time. UPDATED: 27 Dead in Connecticut School Shooting

Local and state police in Newtown, Conn., were called to an elementary school at about 9:30 a.m. Friday morning after a gunman allegedly opened fire at the school.

UPDATED at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15... NEWTOWN, CT -- Connecticut police said Friday afternoon that 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at an elementary school after a gunman opened fire. Another adult was killed at a second location.   The Scene Police in Newtown were called to the Sandy Hook School at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call Friday morning. Authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the school. He was reportedly armed with four guns and a high-powered assault rifle. Authorities said during a press conference that they have retrieved three weapons from the scene. Bank Robbery Suspect in Norton Identified Norton Police Detectives have identified the Mansfield Bank robbery suspect as Ramon Felix, 27, of Quincy.  A bank employee told the Norton Police Department that a male entered the Mansfield Bank on W. Main Street in Norton at about 6 p.m. on April 21, approached a teller and handed her a note requesting money and stating that he had a weapon.  No weapon was shown to the teller. The male then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
