Name: Andrew Mackie Age: 49 How many years have you lived in Norton? 15 years. How many children do you have in the Norton public schools? I have two daughters and they are both at the high school, a freshman and a senior. Both have attended the Norton schools since kindergarten. What is your current involvement with the school district (PTO membership, volunteering, etc.)? I’ve served 3 terms on the school committee, for which I am currently the chairman, and am also a member of the building committee for the high school renovation project. My wife has been heavily involved with the PTOs as our children have progressed through the schools and she’s often “recruited” me to help with various efforts in those groups. I also served on the …

The Norton Middle School girls basketball team, who won the Massasoit League Title, will be recognized at Monday night's Norton School Committee meeting. The girls beat Westport 27-18 Feb. 14 and went undefeated 18-0 on the season. Also on the agenda, the committee will discuss the fiscal 2014 budget. The Norton School Committee presented their recommended fiscal year 2014 budget of just over $24M Feb. 25, an increase of just under $1.6 million from the fiscal year 2013. George Burgess vying for Planning Board while Mark Powers and Daniel Sheedy go for School Committee.
George F. Burgess, Mark Powers and Daniel Sheedy have dropped their names in the hat for this year’s annual town election. Burgess has taken out papers for the Planning Board. He is on the ballot next to incumbent David Miller for one of three seats available. Powers and Sheedy will be up against current School Committee chairperson Andrew Mackie and nominee Valerie Desmond. There are two three-year terms available. Kimball and Salvo seek reelection on Board of Selectmen.
Several people have already begun their road to election day by obtaining nomination papers. Incumbents Robert Kimball Jr. and Robert Salvo Sr. are looking to be reelected while George Gillis is also vying for a seat. School Committee chairperson Andrew Mackie is seeking reelection while Beth McManus’ seat is being eyed by Valerie Desmond. Ralph Stefanelli and Robert Salvo Sr. are both trying to keep their Housing Authority positions.
