George Burgess vying for Planning Board while Mark Powers and Daniel Sheedy go for School Committee.
George F. Burgess, Mark Powers and Daniel Sheedy have dropped their names in the hat for this year’s annual town election. Burgess has taken out papers for the Planning Board. He is on the ballot next to incumbent David Miller for one of three seats available. Powers and Sheedy will be up against current School Committee chairperson Andrew Mackie and nominee Valerie Desmond. There are two three-year terms available. Incumbents Robert Kimball Jr. and Robert Salvo Sr. are looking to be reelected while George Gillis is also vying for a seat. Ralph Stefanelli and Robert Salvo Sr. are both trying to keep their Housing Authority positions. 9:30 p.m.- The election results are in! Unofficial results recorded 775 cards casted. Selectwoman Mary Steele, Town Moderator Bill Gouveia and water and sewer commissioner Diane McElligott were all unopposed and won re-election. Mary Steele received 608 votes with 12 write-ins. Gouveia received 606 vote with nine write-ins. McElligott received 512 votes and seven write-ins. The remainder of the votes each candidate received are below, with winners in bold. Norton’s Planning Board does things their way regardless of what residents say. On the night of January 18th, almost a dozen neighbors attended the Planning Board meeting to urge the Planning Board to deny a request by residents of 16 Plain Street to house two miniature horses on their property. If you have 5 acres or more in Norton, you can pretty much put any kind and amount of animals on your property regardless of how their subsequent odors will impact your neighbors. However, this property is only 2.75 acres so they needed to apply for a special permit. The adjacent neighbor wrote a long letter to the planning board indicating why the request should be denied and they were two of the dozen who appeared at the meeting. Neighbors …
