Norton Woman Looks To Create Day Program For Disabled Adults

AnnMarie Cunniff soliciting votes for Pepsi Challenge.

Five years ago, AnnMarie Cunniff, 62, began feeling very anxious. She had trouble being around people. Even when she got promoted to accounting in Walmart, Cunniff couldn't stand being in the small room with no windows to the outside. Two weeks after her daughter graduated from high school, her sister died. At that point, Cunniff's anxiety manifested into agoraphobia. "I couldn't leave the house without feeling anxious," she said. "Doctors tried to find a day program, but there were no programs for high functional people." As a result, Cunniff sought out to create her own recovery process. As a 65-year old Nortonite who was laid off last year but is looking to share something (local and New England wide drive tours for seniors) that I enjoy doing, I very much understand where AnnMarie is coming from and commend her for her efforts.
