Letter to the editor from Norton Parks and Rec chairperson Sheri Cohen.

The Norton Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank the entire community for coming out and supporting our largest yearly event – the 20th annual Chartley Halloween Parade.  This year, the parade’s 20th anniversary, was another huge success (despite the rain)!   First and foremost, we have to thank Ribeiro Enterprises for (once again) sponsoring the parade, so that we can continue with this wonderful tradition.  We would also like to thank the Norton Police and Fire departments, the Norton Honor Guard, and the Norton Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)  for all of their help.  In addition, thank you to the Attleboro and Plainville Police and Fire departments, and the Bristol County Sheriff’s department, the Norton Board of …

Bishop Named Mayor of Norton

Man of Many Hats adds Mayor to repertoire.

The race for the unofficial Mayor of Norton has ended, with Steven Bishop coming out on top. Bishop raised $1,276, which was matched by Teachers Driving Academy, totaling $2,552. His opponent, Meg Fox, raised $630. Together, they raised $3,182, half of which went towards Norton Parks and Recreation Department. The rest went towards the charities of Bishop's choice. In honor of his opponent, Bishop wrote a check from his business for $250 to give to Little Wiffles, a wiffle and kickball league for disabled children ages 4 and older. Fox and her family founded the organization three years ago. Working with Project Early at L. G. Nourse, a young boy asked her why he couldn’t play baseball with the other kids. That is when Fox knew she had to …

Norton Parks and Rec Get Financial Boost

Department awarded $2,000 by the New England Youth Recreation Sponsorship.

The Norton Parks and Recreation Department, which is run by all volunteers, is getting a boost to its coffers this year. Earlier this month, it was awarded $2,000 by the New England Youth Recreation Sponsorship (NEYRS), a non-profit organization that awards small financial contributions to recreation and youth committees across New England. The award is the non-profit’s first donation, said Danielle Riley, a NEYRS board member.  Sheri Cohen and Jennifer Hoffman of the Norton Recreation Board learned of NEYRS and their mission to give back to local communities and submitted a nomination request. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Slattery Property, Park and Rec, Has Much To Offer

Norton resident Tom Golota commends Norton Park and Recreation for creating good old fashioned fun.

Today [Saturday, Jan. 29] was a first for me. It was the first time I experienced the Town of Norton’s Slattery Property since the town came into ownership of the land many years ago. I owe it all to the Norton Park and Recreation. Park and Rec held a Skating Party this Saturday with temps in the mid 30’s. Not a huge attendance but several people did come to the party. Although the ice was soft, it appears everyone had a great time. There was a bonfire, hot chocolate and cookies for everyone. The Slattery Property is very large piece of land and is a great place for a community get together. There is more to do than just skate here. You can also cross country ski, snowshoe, hike, etc. Paths are cleared for walking too. If you, like me, …
