Tricentennial Park in Final Stages

Volunteers needed to help prepare and plant.

The Norton Tricentennial Committee and Land Preservation Society are working toward wrapping up work on the Tricentennial Park. In fact, they are trying to gather volunteers to help prepare and plant the park this Saturday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m. to noon. “We need volunteers to help rake, weed, spread mulch and plant shrubs and other plants,” said Kathy Ebert-Zawasky of the Land Preservation Society of Norton. “Become a part of this permanent memorial to our town's 300th birthday.” The park is at 217 W. Main St., in front of Norton Middle School and the Community Playground. Bring gloves and garden tools, if you have any. Shovels and rakes will be available. I had the pleasure of visiting the site this week. It is FANTASTIC!!! Kathy, Butch and the entire team have done a great job. While everything we have done this year will soon be a memory, this park will be forever. I urge you to support this effort, come out on October 23rd. It will be a special day.   more ›

Tricentennial Committee Digs In To Memorial Park

Groundbreaking ceremony held Friday, April 29.

On April 29, the groundbreaking of the Norton Tricentennial Park, located at 223 W. Main St., marked the beginning works of a permanent memorial to the town’s 300th birthday. Many key townspeople were on hand, including members of the selectmen, tricentennial committee and Land Preservation Society. Volunteers from the middle school also lent a hand to explain the layout of the park. Watch the video for information about the park, and to see the first shovel of dirt hit the ground.

Groundbreaking of Tricentennial Park To Take Place Friday

Park will serve as memorial to town's 300th birthday.

On April 29, the groundbreaking of the Norton Tricentennial Park, located at 223 W. Main St., will mark the beginning works of a permanent memorial to the town’s 300th birthday. The idea for the park was organized by Mary E.R. Brown, Peter Hunt, Brendan Jones, Bill McArtor, Butch Rich, Ruth Goold, Frances Shirley, Phil Zawasky and Kathleen Ebert-Zawasky. “I became involved when I heard about it in the fall of 2010,” Kathleen Ebert-Zawasky explained. “Frances Shirley and Ruth Goold suggested we consider this site for the park.
