Norton Schools May Get More Funds for High School Renovation

Money in the planning phases of the project will be voted on during spring town meeting.

The Norton School Committee voted 5-0 to submit a warrant article to the spring town meeting that would allow nearly $100K to be put back into the High School renovation project that broke ground in March. The money, $93,000, was originally part of the preparation in 2010 in a budgeted $600,000 feasibility study.  School finance director Barry Nectow said that, while the original feasibility study was budgeted into the $34 million renovation project, as it stand the funds would go directly back to the town. He said that while it is not necessarily a bad thing, having contingency money for the project as it moves forward is a good idea. “It will be used on whatever comes up that’s unanticipated or unplanned,” Nectow said. “It’s basically …

Norton School Committee Chooses Joseph Baeta for Superintendent

Norton School Committee votes unanimously for Baeta on Thursday, pending contract negotiations.

The Norton School Committee voted unanimously to hire Joseph Baeta as the new superintendent of schools Thursday night. Baeta, who started out at the Southeastern Regional Technical School, moved to Sharon and then became the superintendent of schools in Holbrook after working nine months as the high school principal and later as the interim superintendent. He said he never really wanted an administrative position, but it just kind of fell into his lap. “I knew I didn’t want to do one thing in administration,” he said. “I never sent kids to the office, I never wanted that part of the job.” Baeta was chosen after a lengthy search process that started in November after the previous search failed to reach a favorable conclusion in contract …

No School in Norton Monday

Schools will be closed Monday in Norton because of Hurricane Sandy.

There will be no school in Norton Monday because of Hurricane Sandy. Governor Deval Patrick has asked that schools be closed in order to keep the roads clear during the storm. Bishop Feehan, Southeastern Regional and Foxborough Charter School are also closed Monday.
