Norton Girls Basketball Finishes Season With Exciting Victory

Lancers break six-game losing streak with win on Martha’s Vineyard Wednesday.

The Norton High girls’ basketball team completed its season in exciting fashion, coming back to defeat Martha’s Vineyard 46-44 in a non-league game on Wednesday afternoon in Oak Bluffs. Senior captain and forward Shannon Hansen finished her Lancer career in the best way possible, hitting a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in the game to give her team an exciting two-point victory. It was a terrific turnaround for Norton, who had dropped a tough 58-38 decision to the Vineyarders two weeks ago at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. In fact, the season as a whole was a terrific turnaround under second-year head coach Nicole Nunes. Norton Girls Basketball Edges Closer To .500 Mark

Lancers register impressive home win over Millis on Thursday night.

With a fast start and a strong finish, the Norton High girls’ basketball team moved to within one game of the .500 mark with an impressive 58-35 victory over Millis on Thursday night at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. The win improved the Lancers to 7-8 overall and 5-8 in the TVL. Both teams wore pink during the game as part of the Tri-Valley League’s Second Annual Think Pink Week. Second straight victory improves Lancers to 6-6 on the season.

When you are trying to reach the tournament, there are certain games where you need to have that killer instinct. One of those games for Norton High girls’ basketball team came on Monday. The Lancers, looking to get to the .500 mark for the season, traveled to Seekonk on Monday to face a winless Warrior team and returned home with a convincing 52-28 victory. The victory improved Norton to 6-6 overall, getting the Lancers to the .500 mark for the first time this late in the season in several years. The win also moved the locals to within five victories of securing their first MIAA Eastern Mass. Division 3 South Sectional Tournament berth in some time. Sophomore guard Rebecca Wasylow led Norton with 13 points, while junior guard Meg Brown …

Important Stretch For Norton Girls Basketball

Lancers face two tough challenges this week.

The Norton High girls' basketball team is currently in the midst of an important stretch of three games in eight days. After winning their first two games against Seekonk and Dover-Sherborn, the Lancers suffered their first loss during a Tri-Valley League game last Friday in Hopkinton, 59-47. This week Norton will face two talented teams in Ashland and Millis. And after this difficult stretch, the Lancers will have a better idea where they stand as team that is hoping to qualify for the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional Tournament by season's end. The Lancers opened the season with a 57-40 win over Seekonk in a non-league game at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. They followed that up with a dominant performance at Dover-Sherborn, winning 51-…
