James Loring netted 17 points, while Dan Rafuse scored 11 points in Norton's seventh win of the season.
Trailing Norton by seven points entering the final stanza, Millis stormed back with a 12-4 run, which pushed the Mohawks ahead, 44-43 with roughly four minutes remaining. Norton’s James Loring regained the lead for the Lancers off a right-handed layup on the ensuing possession before Millis retained their advantage with a Sean Heffernan jumper. Loring then netted the go-ahead bucket off a layup on his team’s next possession, which provided the Lancers with the lead for good. “We fell apart towards the end, we didn’t stick together, we started getting mad at each other, but we pulled it off luckily,” said Loring. Loring, Zach Ruby and Chris Huff put the Lancers up by five with less than a minute remaining before Chris Baker converted Millis…

Lancer girls also drop hard-fought game to Mustangs on Tuesday night.
Free throws spelled the difference as the Medway High boys’ basketball team ended the six-game winning streak of Norton with a 49-43 victory during a Tri-Valley League game Tuesday night in Medway. With the win, the Mustangs remained in a tie for first in the TVL with Hopkinton. Medway is 16-3 overall and 16-1 in the league. The Hillers (16-2 overall, 16-1 in the TVL) held on to their piece of first with a 75-68 home win over Ashland on Tuesday. A win by the Mustangs over Westwood on Friday night at home would most likely give Medway the top seed in the upcoming Division 3 South Sectional Tournament. “Of all the teams in the bracket, I think they are the most well-balanced and I appreciate how they also have a commitment to solid half-…

Lancer girls see postseason hopes end with home loss to Bellingham on Friday.
So much for a letdown. After earning an emotional and hard-fought 56-53 victory over Martha’s Vineyard in a non-league game on Thursday afternoon at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium, there could have been a letdown for the Norton High boys’ basketball team on Friday night when the Lancers traveled to Bellingham for a Tri-Valley League game against a struggling Blackhawk squad. But Norton quickly put those fears to rest, outscoring Bellingham 30-5 in the first quarter on the way to a convincing 81-42 win over the Blackhawks. The Lancers, making one of their patented last-season pushes, have now won six consecutive games and eight of their last nine. The victory improved the locals to 14-5 overall and 11-5 in the league, which is good for …

Lancers earn hard-fought win in Millis on Thursday night.
The Norton High boys’ basketball team moved within one victory of a berth in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional Tournament with a 63-50 victory during a Tri-Valley League game on Thursday night in Millis. The win improved Norton to 10-5 overall and 8-5 in the league. It also avenged a 51-43 setback to the Mohawks on December 23 at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. The Lancers have a solid hold on third place in the TVL right now. Medway is first at 12-2 overall and 12-0 in the league. A win over Medfield on Thursday night improved Hopkinton to 11-2 overall and 11-1 in the league, which is good for second place. Lancers bounce back from loss in Hopkinton with terrific defensive effort.
It was back to the basics for the Norton High boys’ basketball team during its Tri-Valley League game with Ashland on Friday night. After surrendering an average of 70 points during their previous two games, the Lancers reverted back to their defensive excellence, holding the Clockers to just 43 points during a 52-43 victory at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. The victory improved Norton’s overall record to 9-5 and moved the team to within two victories of securing a berth in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional Tournament. The win also allowed the Lancers to move into third place in the Tri-Valley League. Medway continues its reign atop the league standings, owning a 12-2 overall record and a perfect 12-0 TVL mark. Hopkinton is second at …

Lancer teams drop pair of close, hard-fought games to Hopkinton on Tuesday.
The Hopkinton High boys’ basketball team is a tough group to guard under the best of circumstances. But when your team gets into foul trouble, it makes the job of defending the talented Hillers that much more difficult. That’s what happened to Norton on Tuesday night in Hopkinton. Playing their second game in as many nights and third in four days, the Lancers got into foul trouble in the fourth quarter and that led to a Hopkinton parade to the free throw line. The Hillers were 26 of 35 from the foul line in the game and hit a number of key free throws in the final quarter to outlast the visitors 77-71 in a Tri-Valley League game. The win allowed Hopkinton to remain in second place in the league, while Norton is in fourth place. Medway is …

Lancers make it two victories in three days with win over Warriors on Monday.
The Norton High boys’ basketball team used its best offensive output of the season to hold off a tough Seekonk squad, 76-64, during a non-league game on Monday in Seekonk. The 76 points was by far a season high for the Lancers, who are known more for their defensive tenacity than their offensive prowess. But Norton had on its shooting shoes on Monday, hitting 10 of 15 from beyond the three-point line. In fact, the Lancers shot great from wherever they were on the floor. Junior forward Colin Feeney scored 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting. He also had 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Junior guard Steve Burrill had his scoring touch on Monday, hitting 7-of-11 from the field, including five three-pointers, to lead the team with 19 points. …

In halting a two-game losing streak, the Lancers held the Raiders to 10 points or less in every quarter. The win improved Norton to 7-4 overall and 6-4 in the TVL, while Dover-Sherborn dropped to 6-6 overall and 4-6 in the league. Medway continues to sit atop the TVL standings with a 10-2 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the league.
