North Easton Savings Bank recently approved a $1,000 donation to the Norton Energy Fund. This fund was established to provide heat and utility assistance for Norton residents. The all volunteer organization raises funds to support the cause. Last year over 400 families in Norton qualified for Federal fuel assistance. The need this year is even greater with Federal aid being drastically cut. Heating oil costs about $3.75 a gallon, and the average Massachusetts home burns about 822 gallons a year for heat and hot water, eating up money that could be used for food, living costs, and medical care. The Energy Fund will offer one, 100-gallon fill-up per qualified family per heating season, but exceptions always occur, Energy Fund organizers …

North Easton Savings Bank recently held its third annual drive to benefit the food pantries in Easton, Norton, Mansfield and North Attleboro. Responding to reports that the number of families requiring assistance was increasing dramatically, employees, trustees and corporators were asked to bring donations to the North Easton Savings Bank office at 20 Eastman St., Easton. The response was even greater than the prior year. In the spirit of giving, overflowing bags of non-perishable food items, paper goods and toiletries were collected. "We collected enough food to give at least 10 to 12 bags of groceries to Easton, Norton, Mansfield and North Attleboro," said Courtney N. Palm, assistant vice president and marketing officer of North Easton …

Head librarian Lee Parker handed check for $6,995.
Norton Public Library was awarded a check for almost $7,000 yesterday. Bob Berg, treasurer and vice president at North Easton Savings Bank and Pat Polio of the Norton branch presented the check of $6,995 to head librarian Lee Parker. The bank voted on it at their last board meeting. They found out about the need from Berg, who is also treasurer of the Norton Public Library Board of Directors. “We support a lot of community activities,” Berg said. “And the library is the center of town.” This money will go towards a new phone system, something Parker said has been needed for a while. The library currently has analog phones that are at least 20 years old. They have been unable to remove names of employees who have not worked there for years…
