What’s new with the Tri Town Chamber of Commerce for September?

Membership drive in full swing.

The Tri Town Chamber is conducting a membership drive. New members who sign up between now and Oct. 6 earn over $2,400 in benefits including free online and radio advertising, legal consultation, payroll processing, social media consultation and business cards. New members are not the only ones who benefit from the drive. Existing members who refer a new member can earn prizes too, including tickets to professional sporting events, gift certificates, free entrance to local venues and mass media advertising. Companies who want to do business in Foxborough, Mansfield and Norton can check it out. Young Professional Organization Launches Website, Seeks New Members

The Young Professional Organization has a place to share its news.

The United Regional Young Professionals Organization (YPO), a spinoff of the United Regional Chamber of Commerce, has been busy the last few months and is happy to announce it has launched a website and is accepting new members. The YPO, formed in 2010, includes a diverse group of professionals who have an interest in social and business networking, community involvement and professional development. The group, whose focus is on 16 communities including Attleboro, Norton, Foxborough, Mansfield and Seekonk, was organized by the Chamber in direct response to the challenges in attracting and retaining diverse young professionals, according to the YPO.  To continue the momentum, the YPO is co-hosting an event with the Hampton Inn at Franklin …

How To Expand Your Network

Knowing more people will lead to job leads and good advice.

Last week we talked about networking and building up or maintaining informal relationships, especially with people whose friendship could bring advantages, such as job or business opportunities. But how can you expand that network? There are several networking groups in the area but none more convenient than Norton Networkers. The meetings are facilitated by Bill Lippincott, Anne Crawford and Barbara Martin.  They meet at Trinitarian Congregational Church each Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. (a great way to start your day) and end about 9 a.m. Given the amount of time that you will spend in your job search, this will be 1 and ½ hours well spent. Networking Verses Not Working

There's more to networking than asking people you know for a job.

By Brian Coughlin Studies now show that 80 percent of people looking for a new job will find it through networking. Networking is the practice of building up or maintaining informal relationships, especially with people whose friendship could bring advantages, such as job or business opportunities. Many people begin their search with a resume. They find themselves in transition, and all they want is a resume. I would argue that the first document that you need is a marketing plan. The marketing plan will provide those that you network with a better understanding of what you do and where you want to work.  Try this little test. Ask a brother, sister or a great friend what you do for a living.  The answer will be quick and not quite accurate…
