Norton's Branco Receives NSCAA Men's Soccer Award

Named to Third Team All-America.

Four Penmen seniors, including Jordan Branco of Norton, garnered All-Region honors. Branco was named to the Third Team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Branco, a Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference selection, finished 2012 as the second-leading scorer on the Penmen despite missing three games, totaling six goals and a team-high nine assists for 21 points this season.  Over his three seasons in a Penmen uniform, Branco totaled 17 goals and 18 assists for 52 points and was a two-time NE-10 All-Conference selection. Mens Soccer Wins Big Over Emmanuel During Senior Day and Season Finale

Lyons win 7-1.

The Wheaton College men's soccer team racked up five first-half goals on Wednesday en route to a 7-1 victory over visiting Emmanuel College during the Lyons' Senior Day and regular season finale at Keefe Field.     Playing the Saints for the first time in program history while raising its home mark to 8-1-1 this fall, Wheaton saw its overall record improve to 9-6-4.  Emmanuel wrapped up its season this afternoon, falling to 4-12-2.     Host sophomore Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) and freshman Michael Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Millbrook School) each scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Lyons.     Senior Will Nesbitt (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) picked up the game-winning goal midway through the…

Blair's Seven-Point Day Carries Wheaton Soccer to Triumph Over Clark

Wheaton College men's soccer sophomore Travis Blair (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) became just the sixth player in program history to record seven points, carrying the Lyons to a 4-0 victory over visiting Clark University during the team's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season finale on Saturday at Keefe Field.     Guaranteeing itself a spot in the five-team NEWMAC Tournament, Wheaton improved to 8-6-4 overall and finished its league slate at 2-2-2.  Pending on next Saturday's results, the Lyons will either earn a first-round bye as the third seed or host an opening-round game on Wednesday, October 30, as the fourth seed.  Clark slipped to 7-9 on the fall and 0-5 in league play.     Blair's career day …

Wheaton Soccer Falls at Bridgewater State After Serious Injury on Field

Men lose 4-2.

The Wheaton College men's soccer team finished its regular season road slate on a down note Wednesday afternoon, as the Lyons dropped a 4-2 decision to non-conference foe Bridgewater State University at Swenson Field. NECN reported that a player, now known as freshman goalie Matt Dickey, was transported by ground to South Shore hospital for a serious injury. Medflight was called but none was available. Dickey's condition is unknown at this time. Marking just the second loss in 19 meetings against the Bears, Wheaton fell to 7-6-4 on the season, while Bridgewater State improved to 6-7-1. 2012 Wheaton Men's Soccer Season Preview

Lyons hope to win New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

Seeking a return to the top of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), a place the Wheaton College men's soccer team has called home during seven regular seasons and seven league tournaments since 1998, the Lyons have knocked on the door in each of the last four falls.     "Our goal is, and always has been, to win the conference and play in the NCAA Tournament," said 19th-year head coach Matt Cushing. "It remains our goal in 2012, and we look forward to the challenge it presents."     Going 9-8-2 in 2011, six of Wheaton's eight losses came by a single tally, including in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinal round at Babson College.  The Lyons finished the regular season strong, winning five of their last six games by a …

Branco Continues to Add Scoring Touch for SNHU Men’s Soccer

Norton resident contributes to eight straight wins for Penmen.

Junior Jordan Branco of Norton continues to contribute in the scoring column for the Southern New Hampshire University men’s soccer team. Branco, a graduate of Brockton High School, tallied a goal in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State University, the eighth straight win for the Penmen.  He currently ranks second on the team with five goals and three assists for 13 points for Southern New Hampshire, which is 11-2 and ranked No. 16 nationally. Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a key Northeast-10 contest at 7 p.m.
