Location, Design Selected for Memorial Park

Park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent.

The Gold Star Committee has selected a parcel of land located on 32 W. Main Street for a park to be dedicated to Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. "We were looking for a place where people could just sit and relax," said Gold Star Committee member Robert Kimball. Trent died from wounds he sustained in Afghanistan Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C. His unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. Trent, a Norton High School graduate, was 38 when he died. The last soldier from Norton who died in battle was from World War II. The park, which will be next to CVS, will include a walkway leading to a flagpole, …

Park Planned to Honor Master Sgt. Gregory Trent

A Committee is being formed in order to construct a memorial in honor of Master Sergeant Gregory Trent. Trent, of Norton, died from wounds he sustained in Afghanistan Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland. Trent was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C. His unit was attacked in Baktabad, according to the Department of Defense. He was 38. Christopher Cox, who went to Norton High School with Trent, heard about his passing and knew he wanted to somehow pay homage to his friend. “We were pretty close in high school and we stayed in touch later in life through Facebook.
