Ronald E. Peacock Sr., 76, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Norton, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, Fla. Born in Duxbury Jan. 11, 1936, he was son to the late Howard Leon & Evelyn Mary (Wiltshire) Peacock and step-son to the late Grace (Mooney) Peacock. Ronnie grew up and was educated in South Boston. He served in the United States Army as Corporal Regular in the 25th Division and is a veteran of the Korean War. He married Katherine M. Brady and they raised four children in their long time residence in Norton. Ronnie became a Boston Police Officer and was later promoted to Detective. He attended Northeastern University where he studied criminal law. He retired on Jan. 31, 1997 from the Boston …

Donald C. Thomas, 90, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Mr. Thomas was the husband of the late Virginia (Wegeler) Thomas. Born and raised in Roxbury, he was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School. Donald was a longtime resident of Stoughton. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department for over 40 years. After his retirement, he worked in the Distribution Warehouse for Reebok in Stoughton for over 15 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Boston Police Patrolmans Union. He is survived by his children George C. Thomas of Canton, Donna J. Thomas of Stoughton, Timothy J. Thomas of Whitman and Robin T. Donald G. Martel, 59, of Norton, died Nov. 3, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Donald was husband of Susan D. (Colburn) Martel. He leaves his children Joseph J. and Timothy J. of Bourne; and his brother Peter J. Martel and his wife Becky of Norton. Memorial visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 10, 1 to 4 p.m. in the Prophett Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater. Town remembers victims lost as a result of terrorist attacks 11 years ago.
Eleven years after terrorist attacks were made on American soil, town residents gathered in front of Norton Fire Department for a ceremony to remember those whose lives were lost as a result. Additions to this year's service were the Flag of Honor and Flag of Heroes. The stripes on the flag of Honor were created from the names of those who perished on 9/11 using the most up to date information from the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Those on the Flag of Heroes are made up of 343 names, ranks and affiliations of the first responders lost on 9/11 including firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians. Memorial of 12-year-old girl who died in a crash Thursday.
When a child passes away, it has a great impact on the community in which he or she lived. Such is the case in Norton where 12-year-old Angel Pina resided before she died in a violent car crash Thursday afternoon. Angel was a fifth grader at the H.A. Yelle Elementary School and was scheduled to attend Norton Middle School in September. She leaves behind many friends and family including three siblings and her mother, Sandra Ouellette. Angel was described as being a talented athlete who enjoyed cheerleading. "Angel Pina was a caring, kind hearted member of our junior level 1 team at Cheer Nation,” said Erica Carbonneau, coach of Cheer Nation. “She will be greatly missed. Bishop Feehan High School honored the memory of the victims of 9/11 with prayer, reflection and a moment of silence at the Attleboro school Friday morning. The entire student body stood for a special morning prayer dedicated to those who suffered, and still do, from the event, according to the school. Students remained standing while the "National Anthem" and "God Bless America" were sung over the intercom system by Sarah Fischbach of Rehoboth and Meghan Murray of Mansfield. Students were also asked to sit in silence and reflect upon freedom.
