Sobriety Check Scheduled for Bristol County

State police will operate a checkpoint "Friday into Saturday" during "varied hours" on a "public way."

Drivers in Bristol County could be stopped at a checkpoint this weekend to determine if they are sober. Massachusetts State Police announced a sobriety checkpoint will be set up "Friday into Saturday" during "varied hours" on a "public way." A state police press release says, "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways." The release further states, "The selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety." State Police Arrested 1,100 More for OUI in 2012

Massachusetts State Police and local police departments will be out this holiday weekend looking for drunk, impaired and dangerous drivers.

Drunk driving arrests by Massachusetts State Police increased by 30 percent or more than 1,100 drivers, said Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Colonel Timothy Allen at a press conference outside of Massachusetts State Police headquarters in Framingham Friday morning. As of yesterday, Dec. 27, Massachusetts State Police had arrested 4,866 individuals and charged them with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In 2011, Massachusetts State Police arrested 3,728 individuals. Massachusetts State Police and local police departments will be out in force this holiday weekend looking for drunk, impaired and dangerous drivers on the roads, as part of their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday campaign. The New England Patriots will wear black-ribbon logos on their helmets and hold a moment of silence before Sunday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers in Foxborough.

State Police to Hold Sobriety Checkpoint in Bristol County Friday

A routine sobriety checkpoint for drivers in Bristol County is slated for the weekend.

Drivers in the Bristol County area should take note that Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint Friday night into Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, according to an announcement from Colonel Timothy P. Alben, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police.  "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from the roadways," the statement reads. Mass. State Troopers in New Jersey to Help Keep Peace in Wake of Hurricane Sandy Devastation

Preventing people from looting their neighbors' homes is part of the troopers' work in New Jersey.

  New Jersey called; Massachusetts answered. The state of New Jersey asked for help with devastation in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, requesting that nearby states send law enforcement officers to help keep peace and order in the hardest-hit areas of New Jersey. On Saturday, a detachment of 25 troopers from the Massachusetts State Police was selected and sent, reporting to Fort Dix to be sworn in as police officers.  The Massachusetts State Police officers are working with Louisiana State Police and New Jersey State Police in areas including Brick, Ocean Park, Seaside Heights and Palisades Park in New Jersey. State Police Sobriety Check Planned for This Weekend

State Police will run extra safety checks on vehicles this weekend on an undisclosed roadway in Bristol County.

The Massachusetts State Police will operate a Sobriety Checkpoint this upcoming weekend in Bristol County. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," a press release from the Massachusetts State Police and Colonel Timothy P. Update: Norton Woman Injured in a Car vs. Dump Truck Collision on Rte. 495S in Mansfield

Seriousness of injuries unknown at this time.

A 2001 Ford dump truck and a 1999 Saturn crashed around 4:27 p.m. today on Route 495 South in between the route 140 exit and the route 95 exit. Initial reports from the Massachusetts State Police state that the crash induced the Saturn to rollover in the median. The 41-year-old Norton woman driving the Saturn was  transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Her condition is currently unknown. The driver of the dumptruck was unhurt in the collision. At this time, traffic has started moving, but is still congested on both sides of Route 495.
