William Mowatt William S. Mowatt, 71, a lifelong resident of North Easton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2012. He was raised in Easton and was a 1961 graduate of Oliver Ames High School. Mary E. (LaChappelle) Fontes, 79, died Dec. 28, 2012, in Morton Hospital, Taunton. She was born in Canterbury, Conn., daughter of the late George and Beatrice (Baynes) La Chappelle. Mary was educated in Connecticut schools. She has been a resident of Norton for the past 31 years, formerly living in Taunton. She worked for the Daniel F. McNearney Insurance Agency in the Middleboro office for 35 years and for the past 13 years she has been employed by the Celia Insurance Agency, in Raynham. Mary was an active volunteer for the Nine Lives of Norton for many years. Mary leaves her children Donna and her husband Al Riva of Raynham and Allen and his wife Jonna Calhoun of Georgia; her grandchildren Tracey and her husband Kevin Angeley of Berkley …

Nine Lives volunteer with the energy and heart of an army.
Mary Fontes has lived in Norton for 30 years and is a volunteer at the Nine Lives cat shelter. She is described by shelter director Jean Harnden as, “my right hand and left hand person.” Harnden went on to say that Fontes is, “always here whenever we need here.” Fontes has been a volunteer at the shelter for six years. She grew up in Connecticut and moved to Massachusetts 40 years ago. She has two children and two grandchildren and three cats. Fontes has worked in the insurance industry for 60 years. Upon speaking with her, Fontes comes across as being very humble. “She sews for the craft fair we have every year,” Harnden said of Fontes. “Mary has made a lot of what we sell.” Fontes made 150 pot holders for the last craft fair.
