Mansfield to Buy Norton Land for Water Treatment

The town will pay $1.1 million for 51.2 acres of land in Norton known as the Riley Property

After five years of negotiations, the Mansfield Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 at their April 10 meeting to finalize the purchase of approximately 51.2 acres of land in Norton next to a water treatment system serving Mansfield, Foxborough and Norton. The town decided to buy the land after Norton did not purchase it during a 120-day period where they had the first right of refusal. The $1.1 million purchase of the property known as the Riley property located at Crane and Pine streets in Norton will allow Mansfield and the other two towns to store more recharged water after it is treated at the wastewater treatment facility on the adjacent property.  Town Manager Bill Ross also thanked Rep. Theft - Case No. 130112 February 18, 2013 Mansfield : Shaw's Grocery Store Case Details: At 1:18pm the suspect purchased a small bag of Doritos, Dentyne Gum, and 2 16oz Cokes for a total of $6.52. He was given $93.48 back in change. He passed a counterfeit $100. The bill had a watermark of Abraham Lincoln and a five dollar security strip. The bill did pass the marker test. Norton Might Have a Bike Path in the Near Future Principal transportation planner for the Southeastern Regional Planning & Economic Development District Adam Reccia met with Norton officials and townspeople on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of expanding the World War II Memorial Trail bike path into Norton. Reccia said though he and the SRPED are very optimistic about the proposed expansion, the plan is only in its infancy at the moment. Wastewater Management Plan Could Cost $38M

Ten to 20 year plan would connect residents to town sewer line and regionalize wastewater treatment with Mansfield and Foxborough.

A plan to connect Norton residents to a town sewer line and regionalize wastewater treatment with Mansfield and Foxborough could cost about $38M. The majority of residents are currently using individual Title 5 septic systems while a smaller group is hooked up to the municipal wastewater system. The majority of the municipal wastewater that’s collected in Norton is sent to the Mansfield Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is actually located at the intersection of Crane and Hill Street in Norton. Some are connected to the Taunton Wastewater Treatment Facility. Norton Assists with Route 495 Rollover

One man was trapped inside the vehicle on the ramp to Route 95 North for over 30 minutes.

The Route 495 South ramp to Route 95 was closed today at around 9 a.m. after  a tractor trailer rolled over.  The driver, a 48-year-old male, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital according to state police. He was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle for over half an hour. Fire and EMS personell from Mansfield, Norton and Foxborough were on the scene.

Norton Teen Arrested for OUI, Serious Property Damage in Mansfield

Another Norton teen was issued a summons arrest during the incident in Mansfield.

Mansfield Police arrested a Norton teenager after she allegedly rolled her vehicle on Oak Street into a stone wall and a utility pole. Marianne Travers, 19, of Stonyfield Road in Norton was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of illegal drugs and underage possession of alcohol. Travers allegedly rolled her vehicle on Oak Street and hit a utility pole in the collision. She was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with a leg injury. Kyle Almeida, 19, of Crestwood Drive in Norton was issued a summons for underage possession of alcohol.
