The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team used a dominating performance to upend Wellesley College, 17-4, on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Junior Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) paced the offense with a game-high five markers and two draw controls. Freshman Allie Bush (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) facilitated play with two goals and a game-high five assists. Classmates Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, Mass./Concord) and Mia Cambi (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and senior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) all contributed three goals apiece. Norton in springtime is filled with the sound of baseballs pinging off aluminum bats and the whoosh of fastballs hitting the catchers’ mitts. In increasing numbers we have Norton youth pursuing a different spring pastime. Titans Lacrosse comprised of Attleboro and Norton youth has been growing since their inception in 2003. This year over 40 Norton youths have grabbed their sticks and headed to the lacrosse field. This year, the Titans have fielded their first ever club level select team. Three Norton youths have assumed key roles on the inaugural Titans U-15 Lax Select Team. Andrew Ranieri, Joe Weber and Luke Kane have helped key a 2 and 0 start to the select season. The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team had six different players score at least two goals to defeat Salve Regina University, 15-5, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Mirrione Stadium. The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team withstood a late rally from Wheaton College to earn a 9-8 victory over the Lyons in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field. Wheaton freshman Alex Keiver (North Andover, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) led the squad offensively with three goals including his first-career marker at 13:26 of the second quarter. The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and will host the tournament this Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13, at Keefe Field. The Lyons (12-6) finished the 2012 regular season with their highest win total in eight years and advanced to the semifinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament. Head coach Emily Kiablick led Wheaton to its most conference wins (four) since the 2006 campaign, earning NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors for her efforts.
