The Keefe Tech - Ashland Broncos gave the Norton Lancers a hard fight Wednesday night but, in the end, Norton prevailed 45-13. This brings their record to 15-2 and likely sets up a Tri-Valley League championship showdown at home with Holliston next Wednesday evening. Winning Norton wrestlers included Ahrayah Saintius, JT Taylor, Myles McAlpine, Jack Cuneo, Elliott Johnson, Tim Casagni, Alek Donovan, Stephen Hudson, Aidan Kahn, Devin Schuko and Mike Travers who leads the team with 24 wins this season including 19 pins. Prior to the start of the varsity meet the Lancer junior varsity team looked strong and set the stage for the varsity boys. Norton High's freshman and junior varsity football teams wrapped up their seasons this week with wins over Bellingham. Both Lancer teams won six of nine games. The freshman snatched a 32-26 victory from the jaws of defeat with a touchdown pass on the final play of the game to cap off the most exciting game of the season, which was marked by five lead changes. The Lancers scored first and held a 16-12 margin at halftime. But Bellingham went ahead with the first touchdown of the second half to take a 20-16 lead. Then with less than 3 minutes to play, Norton scored what might have been the winning touchdown. Still, Bellingham wasn't done and responded with a touchdown of their own to go up by two points with only 58 seconds left to go. Here…

On Friday the Norton freshman football team fell 14-6 in a hard-fought game at Medfield. With several key players out due to injuries and absence, the Lancers had no quarterback for the game and had to run an improvised "Wildcat" offense. Still, led by Joe Mowry, Eliot Johnson, Rob Smith, Shawn Petrilli, Adam Marcon, Matt Sousa, John Cormier and Jason Robinson, they played well and were only behind 8-6 at halftime. After making a few adjustments, Norton dominated play in the second half but wasn't able to finish a scoring drive and gave up a fumble recovery on its own 1 yard line on a strategic quick kick by Medfield. This set up the Mustangs' second touchdown late in the fourth quarter, which clinched their win. The NHS freshman team …

Lancers trail almost the whole way, but come back to beat Raiders on Saturday.
The Norton High junior varsity boys’ basketball team has not been accustomed to trailing in many games this winter, never mind being behind by 10 points. But that was the situation that faced the Lancers on Saturday afternoon during their Tri-Valley League contest with Dover-Sherborn at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. Norton found itself trailing by 10 points in the first quarter and then by six entering the fourth before outscoring the Raiders 13-4 over the final eight minutes to come away with a very hard-fought 40-37 verdict. “It wasn’t pretty, but we will take it,” said Norton head junior varsity coach Alex DaLuz. “It was a good gut-check game for the team. The kids showed that they wanted the game and they came through in the second …

Lancers win fourth straight overall with victory over Bellingham on Wednesday.
The Norton High wrestling team recorded its second Tri-Valley League dual-meet victory of the season with a 34-0 win in Bellingham on Wednesday night. The Lancers captured all six matches that were contested against a rebuilding Blackhawk program. With the win, Norton improved to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the TVL. Unfortunately, the locals did not receive any help from Hopkinton on Wednesday night, as the Hillers traveled to Holliston for a league meet and dropped a 63-6 verdict to the first-place Panthers. Holliston is now 3-0 in the TVL and needs to defeat Bellingham at home next Wednesday night to secure the outright league dual-meet crown. Against Bellingham on Wednesday night, junior captain Brett Gallagher pinned Andrew Gabriel in 44 …

Lancers put forth great efforts during junior varsity tournament on Monday in Reading.
The Norton High wrestling team completed a triumphant weekend with several outstanding performances during a junior varsity tournament in Reading on Monday. More than 300 wrestlers from over 20 teams from across the state competed in the tournament on Monday at the new Reading High field house. The Lancers performed well in the junior varsity tournament, garnering one individual championship along with one second-place finish and three third-place showings. That followed up several outstanding individual performances by the varsity team on Saturday in Canton as Norton earned seven championships as well as second, third and fourth-place efforts. The freshmen did their part on Sunday in Brookline, winning one championship along with a second…

Lancers improve to 7-1 with win over Mustangs on Friday night.
The calling card for the Norton High junior varsity boys’ basketball team the entire season has been its defense. And that continued on Friday night against Medway. The Lancers held a talented Mustang team to just 35 points, including 10 in the first half, on the way to a 47-35 victory in a Tri-Valley League contest at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. The Norton junior varsity squad began the season by winning its first five games against Dover-Sherborn, Hopkinton, Ashland, Millis and Holliston. The Lancers suffered their first loss of the season last Friday night, falling by nine points in Westwood. But the team has bounced back this week with victories over Bellingham and Medway. “Our formula is to limit turnovers, have the players be …

Lancers improve to 2-0 with win over Hopkinton on Friday night.
Sophomore forward Dan Rafuse scored a team-high 16 points and the Norton junior varsity boys' basketball team held Hopkinton to just seven fourth-quarter points on the way to a 42-39 win in a Tri-Valley League contest on Friday night at the Lawrence Larocque Gymnasium. "Our junior varsity team has not beaten Hopkinton in a few years, so it was nice to get this win," said first-year Norton head coach Alex DaLuz. "We really scraped it out for the win. And it is better to learn lessons while you're winning than when you're losing." The win improved the Lancers to 2-0 on the season, the locals having opened the season with a victory at Dover-Sherborn on Tuesday night. Along with Rafuse's 16 points, junior forward Brendan Breau had six points …

What class acts Coach Patrick Coleman & Tom Petersen are. They are true treasures as coaches to encourage their athletes to get on the Honor Roll and then to reward them! I wish all the athletes good luck and all are able attend the Harvard-Penn game on November 12. Thank you for all you do Pat & Tom. I am sure the lessons you instill in these athletes will follow them through life. Beth McManus   more ›
