Man Falls in Ice, Leads to Norton Fire Search
The man gets out of the ice, from about four to five feet deep, on his own.
Norton Fire Department officials were at the Norton Reservoir early Saturday afternoon looking for a man who was reported to have fallen through the ice. It turned out he had gotten out of the ice on his own, as the man explained to officials when he returned to the scene. Capt. Benton Keene said a person had observed the man skating and then later noticed he was not there, but saw a hole in the ice as well as the man's hockey stick and gloves. Fire officials went to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. "The man later came back to where the incident happened," Keene said. "He had apparently gotten himself out of the ice that was about four to five feet deep on his own." Keene said he estimated the man was in his early 20s.

Hi Holly, Mark here. I was out there all day by Tsangs, and yes, my kids came out for a couple hours. There was 5" of ice where we were. I've been checking ice conditions all week. The area where the guy went in was NOT safe. There was 3" or less. Glad he made it out ok. People need to check before blindly rushing out on the ice. more ›
